Chapter 97: Don’t you want to know who I saw?
Today, the person meeting with Fu Siye was Mr. Li.
Anyone who could discuss business with Fu Siye was naturally no ordinary figure, but relatively speaking, they still had to curry favor with him to some degree.
By the time Fu Siye arrived, Mr. Li was already there as well. He was dressed impeccably and did not dare show the slightest carelessness, afraid of leaving Fu Siye with a poor impression. Although the two had worked together before and met several times, Mr. Li still did not dare to take him lightly.
Sure enough, the moment he saw Fu Siye, he stood at once with a broad, ingratiating smile and said, “Mr. Fu, you’re here.”
Everyone in their circle knew that Fu Siye had severe germ phobia, so he never shook hands with anyone. Mr. Li knew this, of course, and would never do anything to disgust him.
Fu Siye gave a faint nod and sat down at the dining table.
He had no extra words and seemed unwilling to engage in conversation. Even Mr. Li could tell that Fu Siye was in a bad mood today. A trace of irritation flashed through his eyes. Which bastard had upset Mr. Fu this time?
If the negotiations fell apart later, he would not even know who to go after for revenge.
Inside the private room, the silence was so deep it felt as though even breathing could be heard. For a moment, Mr. Li did not dare to speak. If Fu Siye was truly in an irritable state right now, saying too much would only make him more annoyed.
But if he said nothing, it would seem he was neglecting his hospitality.
For a while, Mr. Li was genuinely at a loss.
Mu Teng, seeing the situation, spoke up instead. “Should we have the waiter start serving the dishes first?”
“Oh, right, right, right. Look at me!” Mr. Li said quickly. He immediately glanced at the assistant beside him and gave him a look, and the assistant hurried off to make the arrangements.
After that, the room fell silent again.
Fu Siye still showed no intention of speaking.
Mu Teng cleared his throat and said slowly, “Mr. Li, Fu Siye has already reviewed the proposal for this cooperation, but to be honest, it’s still a little lacking. Perhaps Mr. Li could show a bit more sincerity?”
He knew Mr. Fu did not want to talk, but Mr. Fu would certainly listen, so for the time being, these matters were left to him.
Mr. Li instantly sobered and said at once, “Mr. Fu, I know you may not be very satisfied with this matter, but this cooperation…”
Then he began laying out all sorts of viewpoints, his tone measured and his attitude naturally beyond reproach. To Mu Teng, he was practically groveling.
Fu Siye frowned slightly, his expression threaded with impatience.
Mu Teng had been watching him the entire time while speaking, and once he noticed this, he immediately turned his attention to Mr. Li and continued the conversation without hesitation.
The waiter had already brought in all the dishes, but Fu Siye still had no intention of picking up his chopsticks.
Mr. Li grew even more anxious.
If this had been any other day, a discussion like this would have posed no problem. The agreement might already have been signed on the spot, and they may have come to dinner today not even to discuss the details, only to put a signature on it.
But now things were different.
Fu Siye was in a bad mood, his face dark and frightening from the moment he entered.
At this rate, the talks could not possibly go well. Just as he was still speaking, Fu Siye suddenly rose to his feet. With a dark expression, he headed for the door and said coldly, “I’m going to the restroom. Continue without me.”
Mr. Li: “…”
His face darkened as well, but he concealed it almost immediately.
Was Fu Siye treating him too much like an afterthought, leaving an assistant to negotiate with him like this?
But for this cooperation, aside from the Fu Group, he had no interest in any other company. He could only force himself to endure it and say with a smile, “Of course, go ahead. We can wait until you return to continue.”
As he spoke, Mr. Li also stood up, as if he intended to go relieve himself as well.
He did not dare actually follow too closely, or he would only make Fu Siye dislike him even more.
He dragged his steps so slowly that a corner only a minute away took him a full five minutes to round.
And yet—
The moment he turned the corner, Fu Siye was already nowhere to be seen. Coincidentally, however, he spotted another major figure and was surprised. “Mr. Lu? You’re here too?”
Lu Sinian turned to look at him, the corners of his lips lifting faintly. “Mr. Li, what a coincidence.”
“Haha… here to discuss business,” Mr. Li said smoothly, his smile effortless. “Is Mr. Lu here for business as well?”
Though Lu Sinian looked refined and gentle, Mr. Li knew very well that there was no real difference between Lu Sinian and Fu Siye. Their hearts were equally cold, hard, and ruthless.
So even though Lu Sinian appeared so polite, he did not dare let his guard down in the slightest.
Lu Sinian curved his lips a little. “No. I’m here on a date.”
Right after Fu Siye came out, he heard Lu Sinian’s words. His face, already not looking good, seemed to sink even further.
“Oh?” Mr. Li drawled the word deliberately, then laughed and said, “I saw the trending topics. Looks like Mr. Lu has some good news on the horizon?”
Lu Sinian smiled lightly. “I’m not sure yet. I can only try and see.”
“Hahaha…” Mr. Li hurried on, “With how outstanding and promising you are, Mr. Lu, how could you possibly use the word ‘try’? Miss Mu must simply be feeling shy right now. I’ll be waiting to drink your wedding wine.”
Lu Sinian smiled and nodded. “I’ll take your kind words to heart.”
And just as he finished speaking, he turned his head and saw Fu Siye already walking toward them.
Lu Sinian raised a brow. “Mr. Fu? What a fated meeting.”
Fu Siye’s expression remained grim. He merely gave a faint nod. His sharp gaze landed on Lu Sinian’s face as he said in a low voice, “So Mr. Lu is already planning to get married?”
Lu Sinian smiled faintly. His handsome features held little expression as he answered with ease, “I’m not exactly young anymore. It’s about time I started thinking about this sort of thing. Most importantly, I’ve met someone I like.”
Mr. Li immediately laughed. “It’s rare for Mr. Lu to meet a girl he likes. You’d better hold on tight.”
Fu Siye’s eyes turned cold and still. He said nothing at all, only turned and headed back toward his own private room.
Mr. Li hastily said to Lu Sinian, “Then I won’t disturb you any further, Mr. Lu.”
Lu Sinian smiled. “All right.”
He watched the backs of Fu Siye and Mr. Li recede, the darkness in his eyes deepening.
Perhaps Fu Siye had never truly let go after all.
He said nothing more and returned to the private room.
Mu Yinyin was still seated at the dining table. When she saw him return, she did not seem inclined to speak.
Fu Siye arched his brow slightly, walked to the seat opposite her, and said with a smile, “I ran into an acquaintance just now.”
Mu Yinyin did not seem to think much of it. She simply nodded.
“You don’t want to know who I ran into?” A faint smile lingered at the corner of Lu Sinian’s lips.
Mu Yinyin lifted her eyes slightly. At that moment, she seemed to understand something, but she did not look embarrassed at all. Instead, she asked calmly, “Fu Siye?”
Lu Sinian raised his brows and said nothing.
Mu Yinyin continued eating with perfect composure, as though Lu Sinian had mentioned some entirely irrelevant person.
