Chapter 109: The Beautiful Woman
Two hours later, Meng Tao sent all the materials to Mu Yinyin and called her at the same time.
Mu Yinyin answered softly, “What did you find out?”
Meng Tao quickly replied, “I’ve already sent all the information to President Mu. As for Gao Zhusheng, he has also arrived at the location.”
Mu Yinyin’s eyes flickered slightly, and she immediately said, “Find a way to contact him. Tell him I want to invite him to dinner tonight and see if he’s available.”
“All right,” Meng Tao said simply, waiting for further instructions from Mu Yinyin.
Mu Yinyin didn’t say another word and ended the call.
She then began to open the series of documents Meng Tao had sent.
Because Xiao Qi’s illness came on suddenly, their preparations had been far from thorough.
If this had happened two months earlier, they would have certainly uncovered every detail.
But, on the other hand, if it had happened two months ago, Xiao Qi might not have survived.
Mu Yinyin sighed softly and stopped overthinking, immersing herself seriously in reviewing the data.
Meanwhile, on the other side,
Gao Zhusheng had already arrived at the presidential suite, where his assistant, Yun He, stood by his side.
Yun He was Gao Zhusheng’s sole assistant.
After entering the hotel, Gao Zhusheng half-reclined on the sofa, both legs stretched out flat on it.
He also extended one hand, and Yun He immediately understood, lighting a cigarette for him.
Gao Zhusheng accepted it with satisfaction.
Yun He hesitated briefly before speaking slowly, “President Gao, someone called me saying they want to invite you to dinner tonight.”
His voice was as refined as his appearance.
Gao Zhusheng looked at him silently, waiting for him to continue.
Yun He took out his phone, pulled up the caller’s information, and handed it over.
Gao Zhusheng tapped his cigarette twice on the ashtray, then took the phone from Yun He.
As he looked through the information, Yun He spoke, “She is Mu Yinyin, the head of Starshine Group. Though she has been keeping a low profile these past two years, she has never neglected the company.”
Gao Zhusheng smiled while still reviewing the details. “Interesting. Did she mention why she wants to have dinner with me?”
“There was no mention on the call, only that she wants to have dinner together to see if you are free,” Yun He replied and then fell silent, having provided all the materials.
He noticed that his boss was fixated on the phone screen.
The image freezing Gao Zhusheng’s gaze was that very photo.
Yun He was thorough; he had specifically found some photos of Mu Yinyin online and included them in the document.
“She’s quite beautiful,” was Gao Zhusheng’s first comment after viewing.
By now, his cigarette was finished; he flicked it into the ashtray, ran a hand through his slicked-back hair. His slightly greasy complexion was now twisted into a strange smirk, giving off a rather sleazy vibe that was hard to ignore.
Yun He, long accustomed to his boss’s demeanor, appeared unfazed and stood quietly, awaiting instructions.
Then Gao Zhusheng spoke with a half-smile, “Does she know I’m not interested in men?”
Yun He stiffened but quickly answered, “She does. I already told her assistant on the phone. Her assistant is smart and assured me they won’t do anything to make you uncomfortable.”
“Tsk, looks like she must have something important to ask of me,” Gao Zhusheng’s smirk deepened, his yellowed skin oily under the dim light.
Yun He said nothing further, continuing to wait for his boss’s commands.
Gao Zhusheng reached out his hand again, and Yun He promptly handed him another cigarette and lit it.
“Tell her I’m available tonight. We’ll decide the venue.”
Since he was going to meet such a beautiful woman, there had to be some ceremony involved. A plain place with no schemes would be meaningless.
The calculating look in Gao Zhusheng’s eyes grew more intense.
Yun He, unfazed, responded mechanically and then left.
He knew well what kind of venue to select for his boss. Over the years, he had always found suitable places, and Gao Zhusheng was always satisfied with his arrangements.
Just as Yun He reached the door, Gao Zhusheng squinted and called out, “Wait.”
Yun He froze.
A wave of shame and resentment flickered in his eyes.
Still, he took a deep breath and turned back to his boss.
He stood silently, very close to Gao Zhusheng.
Gao Zhusheng smiled with satisfaction, glanced again at the photos of the beautiful woman on the phone, then stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray. He sat up, planted both feet firmly on the ground, spreading them apart.
Yun He instantly understood, swallowing the dark cloud of emotions in his eyes, thinking of the money he was about to receive. He slowly crouched before Gao Zhusheng.
…
An hour later.
Yun He finally stepped out of the presidential suite.
His expression was as usual; no one could tell anything was amiss.
In his hand, he held a phone, clearly making a call and waiting for the other side to answer.
Without paying attention to those nearby, once connected, he said directly, “Hello, Miss Meng. President Gao has accepted President Mu’s invitation. However, the venue will not be decided by your side. I will choose a comfortable place for you; President Gao dislikes places that aren’t comfortable.”
The implication was clear: they had no say in the matter.
After finishing, a man passing by, who had been walking behind Yun He, suddenly stopped and fixed his gaze on Yun He’s back.
“Mm, five o’clock tonight. I’ll send you the address then. Alright, goodbye.”
Yun He ended the call, unaware of the man watching him, and strode away.
The man who had been staring at him felt uneasy. He didn’t continue forward but instead followed Yun He.
He wasn’t sure if he had misheard, but he needed to verify, to report this to his own president. Otherwise...
He feared something was off.
He knew many of the powerful figures who frequented this place, and he had done his homework on the residents before coming. He recognized Yun He and heard him mention President Gao and... President Mu.
The mention of President Mu was what truly worried the man.
An hour later.
The man had gathered most of the information and returned to the presidential suite with a grave expression.
Seeing his president sitting before the sofa, working on a laptop, he furrowed his brow but chose to interrupt his work.
“President Fu.”
He greeted first, pausing slightly.
Fu Siyue frowned but looked up at Muteng.
He knew Muteng wouldn’t interrupt his work without good reason.
