Chapter 60: I Am Speaking with My Ex-Husband
Very soon, Mu Yinyin finished reading the contract. Her gaze flickered slightly as she set the contract down and looked at the man. “About the percentage—”
Before she could finish, Lu Sinian interrupted her directly. “Do we really need to examine that issue so thoroughly?”
Mu Yinyin was momentarily lost for words. She fell silent.
Lu Sinian smiled lightly, took the contract, signed his name, and handed it back to her. “Your turn.”
Mu Yinyin pressed her lips together, said nothing more, and accepted the contract, signing her own name as well.
The smile at Lu Sinian’s lips deepened. “It’s a pleasure to collaborate with my goddess.”
“You certainly have a way with words, Mr. Perfect.” Mu Yinyin replied offhandedly.
Lu Sinian couldn’t help but laugh, looking at the woman before him. “Are you going to rest here for a while before heading back to work?”
Mu Yinyin shook her head. “No, there are still things to handle at the company. Now that our partnership is settled, I need to start budgeting. The national competition is coming up soon.”
All their cooperation was still in its early stages; the next steps could only proceed after the national competition. The designs for the competition might not even matter much, and perhaps would never be used later. What they wanted wasn’t the entry itself, but the prestige of winning.
Lu Sinian raised his brows, completely unconcerned. “I trust you.”
It was a relaxed, casual sentiment—a sign of trust in an ally.
Mu Yinyin tugged at her lips and rose to her feet. “Well then, until next time.”
As she spoke, she reached out her hand, marking the handshake of their partnership.
Lu Sinian stood up and took her hand.
At the moment their fingers touched, Lu Sinian smiled and said, “What should I do? Now that I’m holding your hand, I don’t want to let go.”
Mu Yinyin pulled her hand back, laughing softly. “Perhaps Mr. Lu doesn’t know me that well yet.”
“With time, I’ll get to know you bit by bit.” Lu Sinian was utterly unfazed.
Mu Yinyin smiled. “Then there’s probably something you don’t know, Mr. Lu.”
They stood facing each other, yet it was as if neither knew what the other was truly thinking.
While Lu Sinian smiled at her, Mu Yinyin spoke lightly, “Earlier, when you came looking for me, you must have seen—I was speaking with my ex-husband.”
I was talking with my ex-husband.
She enunciated each word clearly, her voice steady, making it abundantly clear to him that she was a divorced woman. Whether Lu Sinian genuinely harbored feelings for her or was only seeking a partnership for personal gain, Mu Yinyin had no intention of becoming involved with him.
Yet—
To her surprise, Lu Sinian’s expression did not change in the slightest; there was even a touch of a smile at his lips. “An ex-husband in name only, who hasn’t shared a bed with you in three years?”
Mu Yinyin’s gaze sharpened. Her marriage to Fu Siyue had been a secret, but Lu Sinian seemed to know everything.
But then she thought, even if it was a secret marriage, she still had to visit the old family home from time to time. Lu Sinian and Fu Siyue were business partners—he would naturally pay some attention to Fu Siyue, and thus learn about her.
It made sense.
Mu Yinyin smiled slightly. “It seems you know quite a lot, Mr. Lu. Until next time.”
With that, she picked up a copy of the contract and strode out, making it clear she had nothing more to say.
Lu Sinian didn’t say anything either. His words from earlier had felt half like a joke, half like a subtle promise that there would be time enough for things to change.
After leaving, Lu Sinian exchanged a few more words with her before they parted ways. This time, they didn’t run into Fu Siyue and Nan Shiqing—they had already left long before, without even staying for a good meal.
In the afternoon, Mu Yinyin returned to her company to collect some documents, then set out for the Fu Corporation.
As soon as she entered, she addressed the receptionist, “Hello, I’m from Starlight. I have a business meeting with President Fu.”
The receptionist looked Mu Yinyin up and down before smiling politely. “Do you have an appointment?”
Mu Yinyin replied softly, “Would you mind letting him know I’m here now?”
The receptionist’s eyes flickered, but she only responded courteously, “Of course. I’ll inform upstairs. Please wait a moment.”
Soon, the receptionist made a call upstairs. Two minutes later, her desk phone rang again.
She answered, listened to the other end, and replied, “Understood,” before hanging up.
Mu Yinyin waited patiently. The receptionist smiled at her and said, “I’m sorry, Miss. President Fu is unavailable.”
A glint of irony flashed in Mu Yinyin’s eyes. Fu Siyue was playing this game with her? Very well.
She gave the receptionist a polite nod and directly called Fu Siyue’s number.
The first call was rejected.
Mu Yinyin showed no reaction and dialed again.
The receptionist watched Mu Yinyin, a hint of confusion in her eyes. Who could she be calling?
She saw Mu Yinyin pick up and set down her phone three times. It appeared she was calling repeatedly.
This time, it seemed the call was answered.
The receptionist kept her eyes on Mu Yinyin, curiosity written all over her face. This woman had a remarkable presence and striking looks. Though unfamiliar, it was clear she was no ordinary person.
Then she heard Mu Yinyin’s cold, mocking voice. “Fu Siyue, you’re giving me the silent treatment? If you don’t let me up now, I’ll have no choice but to go after her. It’s your call.”
The receptionist’s expression froze. What was going on? That tone with President Fu—so blunt!
“Is that so? Are you sure?” Mu Yinyin’s voice was still icy.
The receptionist frowned. Was she faking this conversation to save face?
“I’m downstairs at your company, right by reception. Should I keep waiting for you to finish your work, or would it be more convenient if I come up now to discuss things?”
“Good. Much more agreeable, President Fu.”
All the receptionist could hear now was Mu Yinyin’s unrestrained voice, as if she didn’t regard Fu Siyue at all. Impressive…
Just a moment ago, the receptionist thought Mu Yinyin was out of luck.
Yet—
Within a minute, her phone rang again.
This time, it was Mu Teng himself calling.
“Let Miss Mu—the lady you just spoke with—come up now. She can use President Fu’s private elevator.”
The receptionist was stunned before she regained her composure and quickly agreed.
She had never expected that Mu Yinyin’s call had truly been to President Fu himself…!
This woman was incredible! Who on earth was she?
But as she stood there in a daze, she noticed Mu Yinyin looking at her. The receptionist dared not show any neglect or disrespect, and promptly said, “You may go up now, and use President Fu’s private elevator…”
As she spoke, she still seemed a bit flustered.
Mu Yinyin’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Thank you.”
With that, she walked inside.
