Chapter 102: The Sudden Car Accident
The sudden, violent impact sent Shi Qing Nan into a fit of uncontrollable screams. She no longer had the capacity to see what was happening before or behind; instinctively, she clung tightly to Fu Siye’s arm.
Fu Siye’s brows furrowed ever so slightly, clear annoyance flickering in his eyes. Yet, he did not push her away.
His voice was low and grave. “Go see what’s happened.”
Their car had been rear-ended without warning.
The driver acknowledged the order and stepped out. Fu Siye and Shi Qing Nan remained in the back seat, unmoving. Shi Qing Nan gradually regained her composure; Fu Siye, though he had tolerated her grip, did not utter a single word to her.
Meanwhile, the owner of the car behind them also slowly got out. Her expression was clouded, but upon alighting, the first thing she did was not inspect the car ahead but, instead, looked behind her.
Fu Siye pressed the button to lower the window. Unexpectedly, he immediately heard the astonished voice of his driver.
“President Mu?”
Both Fu Siye and Shi Qing Nan froze momentarily. Shi Qing Nan’s brows drew together. “Sister?”
A wave of intense irritation surged within her. Mu Yinyin really knew how to make her presence felt—of all times, she had chosen this moment to appear! And to think she could come up with such a method!
Shi Qing Nan trembled with anger. No—it wouldn’t do. She had to get out of the car! She needed Mu Yinyin to see that the person now by Fu Siye’s side was her. She wanted Mu Yinyin to know that she never stood a chance!
Taking a deep breath, she immediately spoke up, “I’ll get out and see if my sister is alright.”
She didn’t care what Fu Siye thought and simply opened the door to get out. When it came time to put on a show, she couldn’t always wait for Fu Siye’s cue. She made sure to use an especially worried tone.
Sure enough, as soon as she stepped out, she saw Mu Yinyin turn her head and glance her way.
Shi Qing Nan exclaimed in shock, “Sister, what are you doing here? Are you alright?”
She approached with concern, inspecting her closely.
Mu Yinyin merely cast her a cool glance, her brows pinched with faint annoyance. Of all places, she had run into them here—and had even collided with their car.
She didn’t speak to them, instead fixing her gaze on the car behind hers.
It hadn’t been her poor driving that caused her to rear-end Fu Siye. Rather, it was the car behind that had rammed into her, sandwiching her in. The light ahead was red, so she’d been slowing, but the car behind hadn’t stopped at all, as though it had deliberately intended to hit her.
Soon, the driver of the car behind also stepped out—a man clad in a cheap black tracksuit, his body already softening with age, short hair slicked back with gel.
He glared at Mu Yinyin and barked, “What kind of driving is that? Slamming on the brakes out of nowhere!”
Fu Siye’s driver fell silent, somewhat bewildered, uncertain of the situation.
Mu Yinyin’s car was now a mangled wreck, crushed from both ends.
She frowned, turning to the man and asked in a low voice, “Have you been drinking?”
His face changed instantly. “Drinking? What drinking! My dashcam recorded everything clear as day. If you hadn’t braked so suddenly, I wouldn’t have hit you. This is all your fault!”
Mu Yinyin’s expression was composed. “Since you have evidence, let the police settle it.”
“The police?” The man’s face darkened. “You think you won’t be fined heavily after the police get involved? Settle it privately now and save yourself some trouble.”
This sudden accident left Mu Yinyin suspicious. With all the recent troubles, she found herself questioning everyone’s motives.
She lifted her gaze to the presumed drunk, but before she could speak, the sound of a car door opening interrupted her. Both she and the drunkard turned to see Fu Siye step out.
Mu Yinyin’s eyes flickered, but she remained silent.
Seizing the moment, Shi Qing Nan fixed her eyes on the man and spoke sternly, “You must be mistaken. My sister is always a careful driver. If she braked today, it’s because the light ahead was red. You shouldn’t have been speeding. Your sudden collision caused a chain reaction, which proves how fast you were going.”
“I wasn’t speeding!” The man’s face grew even darker, cursing under his breath—until he saw Fu Siye’s icy expression. Suddenly, he fell silent, clearly intimidated by Fu Siye’s presence.
Although he didn’t lose his composure entirely, his uncertainty was plain to see.
Mu Yinyin glanced at Fu Siye, then turned her attention to the drunk. “I’ve already called the police. They will handle this.”
“The police! You call the police over something like this? You’re an adult, acting like a child!” The drunk seemed the very picture of a scoundrel, his expression growing uglier.
Mu Yinyin frowned, as if unwilling to waste another word, and picked up her phone to call her assistant.
The man hadn’t noticed her earlier call to the police and thought she was dialing them now. He lunged at her.
Fu Siye’s face turned cold, but before he could move, Mu Yinyin sidestepped deftly. She moved so swiftly that even Fu Siye’s eyes flickered with a hint of surprise.
The man, reaching for Mu Yinyin’s phone, stumbled forward when she dodged, nearly falling before regaining his balance.
Meanwhile, Mu Yinyin’s call had gone through. “Come here and deal with the aftermath,” she instructed, giving the address before hanging up.
A hint of regret flashed in Shi Qing Nan’s eyes. If only that man had managed to knock Mu Yinyin over, making a fool of her right there on the street.
Due to the chain collision, the already congested street was now utterly blocked.
Mu Yinyin’s car was a total loss; that she’d emerged unscathed was nothing short of miraculous.
Fu Siye glanced at his driver and said in a low voice, “Stay and handle this.”
The driver responded at once, “Understood.”
Fu Siye looked at Shi Qing Nan. “Come, I’ll take you home.”
A surge of delight flashed in Shi Qing Nan’s eyes. Even now, Fu Siye had no intention of concerning himself with Mu Yinyin. How wonderful!
But she kept up her act, hesitating a moment before murmuring, “But… my sister…”
Fu Siye frowned. “You’re worried about her?”
Shi Qing Nan nodded quickly. “Of course. After all, we grew up together…”
She was prepared to play up her sorrowful act, but before she could continue, Fu Siye cut her off in a deep voice, “Then let’s go together.”
Shi Qing Nan: “?”
