Chapter 22 Lu Sinian’s Sudden Change of Face
Fu Siyue’s face was devoid of expression; he merely said, “I’m not busy today.” He spoke no unnecessary words.
Since Fu Siyue was present and the situation had been resolved, Mu Yinyin had no desire to linger. She replied in a cool tone, “In that case, I’ll be leaving first.”
“Alright,” Lu Sinian responded, not pressing to see her off. Watching her turn away, he added, “When you have time, let me treat you to dinner.”
Fu Siyue’s gaze sharpened, his eyes flicking toward Mu Yinyin.
Mu Yinyin smiled lightly. “Sure.”
Fu Siyue’s piercing stare swept over her—so, now she could so freely make plans with men?
Yes. He had forgotten that Mu Yinyin possessed the means to buy a Ferrari herself. Her identity as Lady Yama granted her the power to accomplish much; he had simply been too enraged at the time to recall this fact.
Fu Siyue turned his gaze away, forcing his mind to calm. It must be Mu Yinyin’s fault—she had unsettled him, causing his recent loss of composure!
Mu Yinyin, unaware of his tangled thoughts, strode out. Wan Yu exchanged farewells with Lu Sinian and followed in Mu Yinyin’s footsteps.
When they exited the hospital and stood at the steps outside, Wan Yu could no longer contain herself. She raised her hand, pressing her index finger to Mu Yinyin’s forehead in exasperation.
“What are you thinking? Such a golden opportunity, and you don’t know how to cherish it! Lu Sinian’s status—is he not good enough for you?” Wan Yu’s voice was tinged with frustration and urgency.
Mu Yinyin replied helplessly, “How could he not be? It’s me who isn’t worthy. I’m divorced; if I marry again, that would be a second marriage. He’s at the peak of his youth—how could I taint that?”
“What nonsense!” Wan Yu burst out laughing, scrutinizing Mu Yinyin from head to toe.
Mu Yinyin frowned slightly, puzzled. “What are you doing?”
Wan Yu, wearing ten-centimeter heels, circled her twice before stopping in front of her. She leaned in with a conspiratorial whisper, “Though you’re technically divorced, you haven’t the faintest idea what a man is like, have you?”
Mu Yinyin’s cheeks instantly flushed crimson.
“Wan Yu!” Her voice pitched higher, clearly flustered that Wan Yu would broach such topics outside.
Though Wan Yu spoke quietly enough that no one else could hear, Mu Yinyin still felt awkward.
Wan Yu was thoroughly amused, unfazed by her own behavior. She scoffed, “See, I was right. Many young women, even if it’s their first marriage, have experienced plenty—society’s changed. I don’t see the problem. What I mean is, though you’ve held a marriage certificate, you’re still just a girl, still worthy of being cherished. You’re still a match for Lu Sinian!”
Mu Yinyin said nothing, unwilling to continue.
Wan Yu patted her shoulder with a sigh, “Alright, don’t overthink it. No matter how you look at it, you’re pure! Highly sought after! I must keep an eye on you and give Lu Sinian a proper assessment.”
Mu Yinyin was at a loss for words.
Wan Yu, seeing Mu Yinyin’s embarrassed expression, couldn’t help but laugh, “Enough, enough. Your cheeks are still red! Let’s go—where’s your car?”
Mu Yinyin asked, somewhat confused, “You’re coming with me?”
“Yes, I’ll spend the day at your company. Nothing else to do,” Wan Yu replied lazily.
Mu Yinyin said nothing more and walked ahead. The two soon reached the underground parking lot.
Two hours later.
Lu Sinian had already brought Old Master Lu home to recuperate. After settling him in, Lu Sinian and his assistant drove toward the company.
Zhou Tong glanced at his boss, uncertain, “President Lu, did you notice anything odd just now?”
He watched the rear seat through the mirror as he drove.
Lu Sinian lifted his eyes to meet Zhou Tong’s. “What seemed odd?”
They approached a traffic light. Zhou Tong stopped the car, turning to Lu Sinian. “I think President Fu was acting strange!”
Zhou Tong, though only twenty-four, was clever and perceptive, often anticipating issues before they arose. Because of this, Lu Sinian relied on him heavily.
Wearing thick-framed black glasses, Zhou Tong had an earnest, academic air—like a sleepy, inquisitive university student. Many female employees enjoyed teasing him, and his favorite pastime was gossip. Lu Sinian’s gentle nature meant he wasn’t strict outside of business. Zhou Tong’s frugality had even earned him the nickname “Skinflint Zhou.”
Lu Sinian raised an eyebrow. “Go on.”
The red light would last another ninety-nine seconds. Zhou Tong, looking perplexed, said, “I just feel President Fu’s been unusually attentive lately. Sure, he’s always cooperated with us, and visiting the chairman makes sense, but…”
He paused, frowning, “Everything seems reasonable, yet he’s coming by a little too often. Is it possible he’s not just here to see his business partner?”
There was a hint of probing in his tone.
Lu Sinian’s mouth twitched. “Just say it.”
Zhou Tong laughed sheepishly, “Is he perhaps here for Lady Yama?”
Lu Sinian’s lips curled faintly. “Smart.”
Zhou Tong was taken aback. “So you think so too! I keep feeling like something’s off between them, but their interactions don’t seem particularly familiar. I can’t quite figure it out.”
“We needn’t concern ourselves with others’ affairs.” Lu Sinian leaned back as if to rest his eyes.
When the light changed, Zhou Tong focused on driving.
After passing two more blocks, Lu Sinian gazed out the window.
Zhou Tong, watching through the mirror, saw the refined profile of his employer, a trace of complexity at his eyes.
He paused—clearly, President Lu had something on his mind. After working with him so long, Zhou Tong could read such cues.
Before he could contemplate further, Lu Sinian’s suddenly stern voice sounded, “Pull over!”
Zhou Tong was startled. He quickly signaled and braked.
They were on a bustling thoroughfare—no parking spaces available.
“President Lu, what…do you need?”
Lu Sinian’s handsome features were tinged with coldness, and Zhou Tong was momentarily surprised; he rarely saw such emotion on his boss’s face.
Lu Sinian’s eyes narrowed dangerously as he stared outside. His voice was low and resolute. “Find a parking spot, then come back for me.”
