Chapter 30: Heartless and Loveless
Fu Siyen pressed his lips together, refusing to utter a single word.
A trace of irony flashed in Mu Yinyin’s eyes. Fu Siyen’s silence was not because he had no defense, but out of respect for his elders.
In Fu Siyen’s eyes, hierarchy mattered, and he did possess filial piety.
But—when it came to love, he was utterly indifferent. Or rather, it wasn’t that he was incapable of love; it was just that he had no love for her.
Mu Yinyin’s lips curled. “I’ve said all there is to say. So, Chairman Fu, rest assured, I will never bother your grandson again. For the rest of my life, there will be no more feelings between us. You may set your mind at ease.”
“Yinyin…” Liang Min tried to speak, her voice anxious, but Mu Yinyin turned to her and gently interrupted, “Grandmother, I know you care for me. I care for you too. Even if I divorce Fu Siyen, I won’t drift away from you. In my eyes, you are my real grandmother.”
Liang Min shook her head in distress. This was not all she wanted—she still hoped for a great-grandchild!
But looking at Mu Yinyin’s expression, it was clear her heart was set.
She had not foreseen this, nor was she prepared for it. But after all, with the way Fu Siyen treated her, Mu Yinyin’s heart was bound to die one day.
Liang Min suddenly found herself at a loss. She could not force her grandson to love someone, and if things continued as they were, it would only torment Yinyin further.
Her expression grew complicated. For a moment, she didn’t know what to do. In her helplessness, she sighed in sorrow. “Wonderful. You’ve done well. Just like that, you’ve lost me my granddaughter-in-law.”
With that, Liang Min rose in bleak disappointment and headed upstairs.
Even with Mu Yinyin still present, she was no longer in the mood for company.
Fu Siyen’s gaze flickered, but he said nothing.
The old master’s face darkened. He immediately called out, “Wife!”
Liang Min didn’t look back, continuing up the stairs until she vanished from sight.
The old master turned a cold glare on Mu Yinyin. “Are you satisfied now, after causing such a scene?”
Mu Yinyin let out a cold laugh. “Do you think it was only me? Didn’t you play a part as well?”
“You—!” In the past, whatever he said, Mu Yinyin would never talk back. Now, every word from him was met with her sharp retort. The old master was left speechless with rage!
But before he could respond, Mu Yinyin spoke again in a frosty voice. “If you hadn’t always supported my divorce from Fu Siyen, I wouldn’t have made your wish come true so readily. Nor would you have driven grandmother to such sorrow. Chairman, at your age, you should know better—some things can’t be shouldered by one person alone.”
“Mu Yinyin!”
This time, both the old master and Fu Siyen called her name in unison.
Mu Yinyin gave a light, unconcerned laugh. She turned her gaze to Fu Siyen, “So, are you free tomorrow to get the papers signed?”
“Mu Yinyin! I don’t want to see you play any more tricks. If you don’t show up tomorrow, you know the consequences!”
“Consequences?” Mu Yinyin smiled with a hint of mockery, spreading her hands. “I’m alone now. What do I have to fear?”
Fu Siyen’s expression grew darker still.
The old master snorted coldly. “The divorce must be settled tomorrow!”
With those words, he hurried upstairs to comfort his wife.
Mu Yinyin pulled her lips into a faint smile and spoke again, “Don’t worry. I’ll be there, to—”
Fu Siyen suddenly looked up at her. She paused, then, her red lips parted, and she enunciated each word: “I don’t want to spend another day with you.”
With that, Mu Yinyin turned and left without hesitation, never looking back.
Fu Siyen could not detect a trace of longing in her.
When she spoke to him, there was nothing in her eyes but scorn and disdain—the deep affection of the past had vanished.
Yes.
It seemed Fu Siyen truly could no longer see any trace of love for him in her eyes.
She was as cold as a machine, utterly changed from before.
Fu Siyen’s face darkened again and again, but Mu Yinyin was gone.
Hearing the door close, he turned slowly. He saw Mu Yinyin already in her car, driving away without a second thought.
There was not a hint of nostalgia in her departure.
He gave a short, bitter laugh. Well done, Mu Yinyin. Well done!
Fu Siyen stood up. He did not go upstairs—at this point, his presence would only deepen his grandmother’s sorrow. With his grandfather there, he simply left.
The Fu family estate seemed to fall suddenly silent.
Yet the servants could not help but whisper among themselves.
Two women in their forties stood together, clearing the dishes while speaking in low voices.
The woman with her hair in a bun glanced quietly at the short-haired woman opposite her. “Did you… hear all of that just now?”
The short-haired woman nodded. “Hush—do you want to get yourself in trouble talking about this?”
The woman with the bun looked nervously around, carrying the dishes with her into the kitchen, but she couldn’t help whispering, “The young madam really seems different this time.”
The short-haired woman glanced around and replied in a low voice, “Maybe after all this time, with no response and everyone treating her this way, her heart has turned cold.”
“Honestly, I think the young madam is wonderful. Why does the young master refuse to see her value?” The woman with the bun sighed helplessly.
“The young master has always been cold and unfeeling. It’s not surprising he doesn’t care. And I’ve heard there was some misunderstanding in the past… something to do with that big fire…”
“The fire? What happened?”
“I don’t know the details. Anyway, this isn’t something we should talk about. Let’s get back to work.”
“Oh, come on! Don’t leave me hanging—tell me more!”
…
At this moment, Mu Yinyin was already driving away. The moment she left, she never wanted to linger in the Fu household again. Every time she came here, she felt suffocated. Perhaps after her divorce from Fu Siyen, coming here wouldn’t feel so oppressive.
Now that grandmother was still in pain, there was nothing she could say—anything more would only make her sadder. Once grandmother came to terms with things, she could visit again.
Tomorrow, she would go to the civil registry for the divorce.
She hoped, this time, nothing would go wrong.
Fearing any mishap, Mu Yinyin had already begun making arrangements for tomorrow, just in case.
Meanwhile, she was not the only one weighed down with heavy thoughts. Another pair of mother and daughter were equally troubled.
Nan Shiqing had just received a phone call. Brow furrowed, she looked across the table at her mother and spoke in a low voice, “Mom, Mu Yinyin went to the Fu family estate today!”
He Xia frowned slightly. “What was she doing there? Did Lady Fu invite her?”
“I think so. Didn’t she always say Lady Fu was fond of her? Mom, I’m a little worried…”
