Fu Siye frowned slightly, a trace of irritation flickering in his eyes. He stopped dwelling on those thoughts and threw himself back into his work.

And so he worked straight through until quitting time.

During all that time, Nan Shiqing's inner monologue had been running wild.

Could it be that Fu Siye really didn't like her anymore?

And now, quitting time had arrived...

Fu Siye finally paused his work and glanced at the watch on his wrist.

Nan Shiqing's eyes flickered subtly, as if she were wrestling with something.

But in this situation, she had no idea what to say.

Still, she felt that if she stayed silent, she might not get another chance. After hesitating for a moment, she looked at the man and spoke in a sweet, coquettish voice, "Siye, are you done with your work?"

"Mm." He merely responded with that single word, nothing more.

And he looked as though he had nothing else to say either.

Nan Shiqing pressed her lips together, the irritation in her eyes almost surfacing. Why had Fu Siye changed so much? It really was becoming hard for her to handle.

But she couldn't let things remain at an impasse like this. She needed to say something more.

Drawing a deep breath, she smiled at the man and said, "Then shall we go out and eat together now? Is there anything you'd like to eat?"

Fu Siye lifted his gaze, letting it fall on Nan Shiqing's face. Seeing that her pretty little face was somewhat pale, and even carried a hint of hidden dejection, his eyes moved slightly before he finally spoke.

"Alright."

No matter what, Nan Shiqing was his lifesaver. That was something he could not forget, and must not forget.

Nan Shiqing's eyes brightened, gratitude shining in them. "Siye, thank you."

Fu Siye looked at her without speaking, his expression seeming puzzled.

Nan Shiqing smiled shyly. "Thank you for being willing to accommodate my feelings."

Fu Siye's gaze flickered.

He had merely done something utterly ordinary, and yet it moved Nan Shiqing so deeply.

If it had been Mu Yinyin instead, she would only have sneered, wouldn't she?

Hah...

There was no need to think any more about that ungrateful woman. Fu Siye pulled his thoughts back, rose to his feet, and looked at her, softening his voice as much as he could. "There's nothing to thank me for. Let's go."

Nan Shiqing smiled and nodded obediently, then with a soft sound of assent, she followed Fu Siye's steps. If it weren't for the fact that their relationship was not yet proper or acknowledged, Nan Shiqing would have linked her arm through the man's and leaned obediently against his chest. But unfortunately, she couldn't do that now.

She truly longed for that day to come soon. She just didn't know when Fu Siye would truly fall in love with her.

Nan Shiqing sighed inwardly, but the determination in her eyes only grew. She believed that day would come sooner or later—as long as she persisted and kept trying, she would surely succeed.

About an hour or so later, the two arrived at the restaurant. Today, Fu Siye hadn't chosen to drive; both of them sat in the back seat. Nan Shiqing occasionally stole glances at the man from the corner of her eye, several times wanting to strike up a conversation, but she found that Fu Siye had no interest in talking, so she obediently closed her lips again.

The restaurant had been casually chosen by Fu Siye. He had asked Nan Shiqing what she wanted to eat, but Nan Shiqing had obediently said that anything was fine. Fu Siye had no patience to keep asking, so he settled on this place.

It was an upscale Chinese restaurant. This time, Fu Siye let Nan Shiqing order. Nan Shiqing thought she could make a little something of the menu, so without hesitating, she agreed and began to order.

Since it was just the two of them, and she didn't intend to be extravagant, Nan Shiqing ordered four dishes, three of which were Fu Siye's favorites. As for the fourth, it wasn't something Nan Shiqing liked, but rather...

Fu Siye frowned slightly. "You don't like mushrooms."

Nan Shiqing gave a soft laugh. "I don't like them much, but my sister once told me that eating more of this kind of thing is good for you. I think my sister wouldn't harm me."

Fu Siye let out a cold snort. "She never treated you like a real sister, so why bother caring about anything she said?"

Nan Shiqing immediately shook her head in a fluster. "Siye, you really mustn't misunderstand. My sister isn't like that. She's only angry with me for a while, feeling that my presence has driven a wedge between the two of you. I..."

In the middle of her words, she found herself at a loss, and the panic in her eyes increased. But she felt that if she didn't say anything, it would only cause more misunderstanding between them, so she quickly spoke up again. "Once I've explained things to my sister, she'll believe me, and we'll go back to how we were before. Siye, please don't have too many conflicts with her, alright? I really do hope the two of you can get back together. And please don't feel grateful to me just because I saved you. Over these years, you've already done so much for my family—far more than any repayment could ever cover. Siye, I truly don't want to ruin your relationship..."

By the end, Nan Shiqing's eyes were filled with more and more guilt. She even dared not look at the man before her, lowering her head like a child who had done something wrong.

Fu Siye's brows clearly knitted a little tighter. Seemingly unwilling to make her upset, he spoke slowly. "My divorce from her is only a matter of time. It has nothing to do with you. You don't need to feel guilty. And she and I will never be possible again."

Nan Shiqing looked even more flustered, instinctively shaking her head as if to say something, but Fu Siye had already taken the menu and continued ordering, removing the mushroom dish.

This restaurant didn't require waiters to stay inside, which was convenient for guests ordering their meals; everything was ordered through electronic devices.

Fu Siye added a few more dishes, all of which were Nan Shiqing's favorites.

A secret joy crept into Nan Shiqing's heart. Siye actually still remembered what she liked to eat.

She really felt so happy.

Knowing that saying any more would only make Fu Siye dislike her, Nan Shiqing stopped talking about other things. She sat obediently in her seat, head lowered, as if at a loss.

And then came a long stretch of silence. Fu Siye showed no intention of speaking.

Nan Shiqing wanted to find all sorts of topics, but she always felt that no matter what topic she chose, the man wouldn't be interested—and might even be put off by it. This made her increasingly uneasy. In the past, when she was pretending to be unconscious, Fu Siye would talk to her alone by her hospital bed. But ever since she woke up, everything seemed to have changed.

And then there was Mu Yinyin—that enormous variable!

She had caught her—no!—their entire family completely off guard!

Until the meal came to an end, the two had barely exchanged any words. Nan Shiqing felt utterly miserable.

Fu Siye offered to drive her home. Nan Shiqing politely declined a couple of times, but Fu Siye insisted, so they headed toward her home.

And the whole ride was tedious again. A dedicated driver was at the wheel, while Fu Siye stared at his phone, doing who knows what. Nan Shiqing didn't dare look at him too much, sitting stiffly in the back seat, utterly restless.

Just as she thought they would return home peacefully...

Who would have thought—

Suddenly—

Screech—

BANG!!!
