Chapter 9 How Could She Do Something So Shameful!
The employees all seemed to sense that something was off—this woman might be Jiang Ling’s woman. Even Meng Qiao began to panic. She quickly looked at Jiang Ling and tried to explain, “President Jiang, I was just following company policy. She didn’t have an appointment, so naturally I couldn’t let her in!”
Jiang Ling spoke coldly without hesitation. “You’re fired.”
“President Jiang, you can’t just listen to one side because you’re close to her. We just…”
Before she could finish, Jiang Ling interrupted with a frown and a frosty tone. “She is President Mu.”
Everyone: “!!!”
A look of astonishment filled every pair of eyes.
“President Mu?!” Meng Qiao was utterly incredulous. Oh, no, no, no! She—she is…!
Shock flooded the entire room!
There were four founders of the company; everyone had met three, but the head of the group—President Mu—was always the most mysterious!
And today, she had walked right into her own disaster, even accusing her of relying on President Jiang to get ahead!
Meng Qiao’s face turned ashen. Flustered, she looked desperately at Mu Yinyin, and however unwilling she was, she hastily apologized. “President Mu! I’m sorry! I was blind just now. Please, be magnanimous and don’t hold it against me.”
Mu Yinyin’s expression remained calm. “Go collect your salary from finance. Don’t force me to say more; I’m letting you keep your dignity.”
A surge of resentment filled Meng Qiao’s heart. She had gotten in through the back door and thought she could keep this job indefinitely. She never expected to provoke this woman!
She looked pleadingly at Jiang Ling, but… Jiang Ling didn’t glance at her.
Some employees couldn’t help but sneer. “That receptionist has been flaunting her connections for ages. President Mu’s decision today is truly satisfying!”
Feeling the sting of all those strange looks, Meng Qiao’s complexion shifted between blue and purple. Unable to endure the cold remarks, she fled in humiliation.
Many people turned to look at Mu Yinyin. This formidable leader—they had never seen her before! Just now, they already thought she was dignified, but now… her aura felt even more commanding. No one dared approach her.
Jiang Ling looked at Mu Yinyin. “Shall we go?”
“Yes.” Mu Yinyin nodded, but she cast her gaze on the receptionist with the friendly face. Her lips curved slightly. “From today on, you’re in charge of the reception desk.”
The young woman was instantly overwhelmed with gratitude, nodding eagerly to Mu Yinyin. “Thank you, President Mu!”
Mu Yinyin smiled, saying nothing more.
The two entered the private elevator and made their way to Jiang Ling’s office. He closed the door, his expression complicated as he looked at Mu Yinyin. “Yinyin, about last night…”
Mu Yinyin furrowed her brow and instinctively looked up. “Actually, that’s what I wanted to ask you. After I got drunk last night, what exactly happened?”
Jiang Ling was a bit surprised. “You don’t know?”
Mu Yinyin pressed her lips together and shook her head. “I only remember drinking with you last night. When I woke up this morning, I was in Fu Siye’s house.”
“You didn’t see Fu Siye?”
Mu Yinyin shook her head in confusion.
Jiang Ling hesitated for a moment but eventually decided to tell her everything that had happened the previous night.
Mu Yinyin was utterly stunned.
She had actually taken the initiative to ask Fu Siye if he wanted to—! And he had brought her back to… the place where they got married?
She had explicitly told Fu Siye that from now on their lives would be separate, wishing him lifelong happiness, but in the end, she shamelessly threw herself at him!
At that moment, Mu Yinyin wished she could disappear into the ground.
How could she have said something so embarrassing?
Fu Siye must think she was utterly shameless—knowing full well that his heart belonged to Nan Shiqing, yet she still offered herself to him. He was a notorious germaphobe; after what happened last night, he probably found her even more repulsive.
She rubbed her throbbing temples, forcing herself to calm down.
Alcohol only brought disaster. She would never drink again!
Jiang Ling sighed. “It’s my fault for not protecting you.”
Mu Yinyin snapped back to herself, took a deep breath, and said, “It’s nothing. Besides, Dyson was there to stop things—how can I blame you? Let’s not dwell on this. I won’t drink again. I’ll mend my ways and never stray again. I’ll do my best to safeguard our Starlight.”
Jiang Ling, always so composed, was visibly more emotional than before. He nodded solemnly. “I’m just glad you’re back.”
“I’ll go check on the company’s affairs. Let’s have lunch together.”
“Okay.”
As he watched Mu Yinyin’s departing figure, a quiet smile slowly spread in Jiang Ling’s eyes. Yinyin—she had finally come back.
With her at the helm, no one would dare challenge Starlight again.
After returning to her office, Mu Yinyin didn’t immediately review the company’s latest developments. Instead, she stared intently at her phone.
On the screen was a photo of Nan Shiqing’s mother, He Xia, sitting closely with a man in his twenties. The two appeared intimate—feeding each other, hugging, and in the last photo, kissing.
This man had often visited the Mu family in the past. Back then, He Xia claimed he was her cousin.
Mu Yinyin hadn’t thought much of it at the time, but after her father’s death, she couldn’t help investigating everything. That was when she discovered the man was no relation at all—he was simply a kept lover.
Mu Yinyin set down her phone, her icy gaze seemingly freezing the entire room.
Two months ago, her father had been reported for smuggling and drug trafficking. After a month-long investigation, the evidence left him speechless. Before he could be imprisoned, he died of a sudden heart attack, triggered by the shock.
Her father had always taught her to live with integrity. He would never have trafficked drugs—someone had framed him!
For the past month, she had been turning this over in her mind. Even though Nan Shiqing’s mother had extricated herself cleanly from the affair, and even grieved bitterly after her father’s death, Mu Yinyin still believed He Xia couldn’t be entirely innocent.
Before her father passed, He Xia had already begun her affair with that man. Now that her father was gone, she could indulge herself completely without restraint.
After a pause, Mu Yinyin transferred money to a paparazzo and sent a message.
—Mu Yinyin: [Continue tailing them for another month.]
—Paparazzo: [Received!]
Mu Yinyin put her phone down again, feeling weak and pale. If not for her own negligence, her father might not have ended up like this…
She had cut herself off from the world; the initial stages of the accusation had been hidden from her, and by the time she found out, her father was already being buried…
Her phone rang again, snapping Mu Yinyin back to herself. When she saw the unsaved number, her gaze instantly sharpened.
A call at this time.
How interesting.
Mu Yinyin didn’t react much. She answered.
“Hello.”
Her tone was indifferent, devoid of emotion.
After what had happened, everything between them was now distant.
Soon, the caller’s voice came through.
