Chapter 68 A Faint Voice
“No… In this situation, I can’t stand up there. I’m fine, really!”
With that, Nan Shiqing wiped her tears away and quickly walked toward the ladder.
Fu Siyen said nothing, his face dark and grim as he strode in the same direction.
Nan Shiqing stared in disbelief.
Why?
Why was it like this?
Her mother had just clearly stated that her health hadn’t fully recovered, that she absolutely couldn’t attempt such a climb, yet… stubbornly, she insisted, and Fu Siyen didn’t even try to stop her?
Was he so utterly consumed by Mu Yinyin, that there was no room for anyone else?
Otherwise, why hadn’t he said a single word?
Nan Shiqing’s emotions teetered on the edge of collapse, but at this point, there was no time to dwell on it. As she prepared to feign weakness again, Fu Siyen was already climbing the ladder ahead of them, without uttering a single word.
Nan Shiqing was speechless.
She knew now that pretending was useless; she’d have to claim aftereffects in a few days instead.
Drawing a deep breath, she bit her lip, and when Fu Siyen had descended a certain distance, she followed after him.
By the time she reached the ground, Fu Siyen’s figure was already gone.
Expected, but still, disappointment and agitation gnawed at her.
She had no time to linger; switching on her phone’s flashlight, she searched all around.
Everyone was doing the same, so the night was dotted with weak beams of light, and some people were already searching below.
“Over here!” someone suddenly called out, and everyone moved toward the source of the voice.
He Xia was already beside Nan Shiqing, holding her hand. “Come on, let’s go over.”
Nan Shiqing glanced at her mother’s calm face and nodded; mother and daughter walked side by side.
When they arrived, Jiang Ling was already standing at the front.
When Mu Yinyin had her accident… he had been half a street away, unable to help in time.
So…
He was the one who witnessed it firsthand, and in that moment, his heart nearly leapt out of his chest.
He wasted no time and immediately called the police, giving them the address—his was the first call and the most timely.
The red Ferrari had lost its former dazzling look; though not completely destroyed, it was battered. The rear door hung off its hinges, and the driver’s door was tightly shut.
The windshield was shattered, and silver shards glittered under moonlight and flashlights—not blinding, but deeply unsettling.
All of it spoke of a grave accident.
“Yinyin…” Gu Xiaoqi’s voice trembled; she stepped forward but couldn’t bring herself to move any closer.
Jiang Ling’s hands shook, but he pressed on, opening the driver’s door without hesitation.
What if—
What if there was still hope?
What if Mu Yinyin was only injured, and nothing worse?
Fu Siyen stood to the side, his expression icy, fists clenched tightly; had Jiang Ling not been there, perhaps he would have opened the door himself.
Under everyone’s gaze, the door swung open.
Nan Shiqing’s eyes flashed with malice. Mu Yinyin—go and die! Only if you die will my family have peace. Blame yourself for being born to the wrong family! You shouldn’t have been the Mu family’s daughter, nor the leader of the Stardust Group!
But before she could indulge in her thoughts, she saw the situation inside the driver’s seat—and her expression changed.
Many eyes were filled with shock; someone suddenly cried out, “Where is she?!”
Yes!
Where is she?!
Why was the driver’s seat empty?
Only the airbags deployed—but… no one in the driver’s seat! No one!
Nan Shiqing stared in disbelief, then turned swiftly to He Xia. “Mom…?!”
He Xia’s face changed, but her performance had to be flawless; she quickly spoke with delight, “Yinyin isn’t here! Doesn’t that mean—she’s all right?!”
“Really?! Sister is fine?” Nan Shiqing, experienced in such matters, switched expressions quickly, her voice brimming with surprise.
He Xia immediately urged, “Quick, call her!”
Mother and daughter simultaneously pulled out their phones and dialed Mu Yinyin.
Gu Xiaoqi spoke excitedly, “She must be fine—she got out of the car. Hurry, let’s search!”
She too took out her phone to call Mu Yinyin.
But the calls wouldn’t connect.
Standing to the side, Fu Siyen’s eyes suddenly relaxed.
The tension of Jiang Ling opening the car door evaporated.
Mu Yinyin wasn’t in the car—it meant she was still alive.
Realizing this, Fu Siyen secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
But the next moment, his face darkened.
Why was he so anxious about Mu Yinyin’s accident?
What did her life or death have to do with him?
His lips pressed into a thin line, eyes growing colder, but within a single breath, he regained composure.
Mu Yinyin’s proposal was important; for Stardust and the Fu Group, it meant enormous profits. If Mu Yinyin were gone, the partnership would fall through. That must be why he was anxious.
Fu Siyen pursed his lips, said nothing, and turned to search elsewhere.
He had to find Mu Yinyin—for the sake of the collaboration, she couldn’t die.
No one lingered on the matter; they all dispersed, searching for Mu Yinyin.
Then, a weak voice called out, “I’m here.”
Everyone froze.
Jiang Ling quickly looked toward the source.
Instinctively, everyone illuminated the area with their phones.
When a girl appeared before them, astonishment rippled through the crowd.
Mu Yinyin!
Aside from the staff, everyone present was connected to Mu Yinyin—they recognized her instantly.
“Yinyin!” Gu Xiaoqi rushed forward, unable to contain herself, voice trembling with tears, desperate to embrace Mu Yinyin.
But—
Seeing the wounds on Mu Yinyin’s face, she suddenly hesitated, anxiety in her voice, “Are you… are you all right now?”
Nan Shiqing was shocked.
He Xia was shocked.
She fell from such a height! How could she still be standing and speaking?! Why was she barely injured?! How could it be possible?
Jiang Ling strode over without a word, and scooped Mu Yinyin into his arms.
