Chapter 140: Who Is Really the Narcissist?
Mu Teng noticed that his President was moving at an unusually fast pace. For a moment, he didn't dare to speak, hurrying to keep up. Even a fool could see that the President was in a foul mood, with an air of imminent eruption.
Mu Teng dared not provoke him, so he followed silently, not daring to draw a full breath, knowing better than to offer any distractions at this time.
Soon, the two reached the car. Mu Teng took the wheel, while Fu Siye sat in the back. Just as Mu Teng was about to start the engine, Fu Siye asked in a low, heavy voice, "Who was that man?"
Mu Teng’s gaze faltered for a fraction of a second, but he dared not hesitate. He quickly replied, "That was Qi Mo, a business magnate in Country E. His company is comparable in scale to the Fu and Lu corporations."
Qi Mo.
Upon hearing the name, Fu Siye knew exactly who he was. He had, of course, heard of such a prominent figure, though the two had never crossed paths, which was why he hadn't recognized him immediately.
But why was Mu Yinyin entangled with someone like that?
The irony in Fu Siye’s eyes grew sharper, and he was so infuriated he let out a dry, humorless laugh. He had truly underestimated Mu Yinyin’s capabilities!
Hooking men—what a clever strategy!
"I heard that Young Master Qi has a fiancée."
Fu Siye raised his eyes to look at him, remaining silent but clearly waiting for Mu Teng to continue.
Mu Teng glanced at him through the rearview mirror, coughed lightly, and continued, "The fiancée’s family is his equal in status. However, she went missing over a decade ago and has never been found. Yet, the families have shown no intention of calling off the engagement; it seems they are still searching for her."
Fu Siye frowned, saying nothing.
Mu Teng touched the tip of his nose before starting the engine. He had hesitated earlier when mentioning the fiancée, fearing his President might lose interest, in which case he would stop. But his concern was unnecessary; it was clear his President wanted to hear more.
He didn't know much more about Qi Mo. After a pause, he asked, "Would you like me to conduct a thorough investigation into Qi Mo’s situation?"
Silence fell within the car. Just as Mu Teng thought he would receive no reply and was debating whether to proceed, he heard Fu Siye’s cold, crisp voice: "No need."
"Understood."
He said nothing more.
...
The car drove away. As for Mu Yinyin and Qi Mo, they stepped outside as well. Qi Mo immediately offered, "Let me drive you back."
"No need, I have my own car." Mu Yinyin refused without a second thought. A dangerous aura radiated from every fiber of this man, forcing her to stay on guard; she had no desire to deal with someone like him.
The reputation of being ruthless and calculating, attributed to him by so many, was certainly not without cause.
"Tsk, that afraid of me?" Qi Mo raised an eyebrow, his handsome face leaning in closer as he spoke.
For a brief moment, the scent of the young woman filled his senses. Qi Mo’s breath hitched, and his gaze seemed to solidify for a second.
Mu Yinyin immediately took a step back and said with a smile, "Young Master Qi’s reputation precedes him; how could I not be?"
Qi Mo did not dwell on the matter, saying nonchalantly, "It doesn't matter. Hearing is believing, but seeing is the truth. We’ll get to know each other better after a few more meetings."
He did not lean in again, as if he sensed her repulsion, or perhaps he wasn't one for getting too close to women anyway.
Mu Yinyin pursed her lips, not wishing to waste more time with him. She offered a polite smile and said, "Then I look forward to our next meeting."
Today was merely a preliminary discussion; no contract had been signed, perhaps because he didn't want to seem too rushed. Regardless, that wasn't something Mu Yinyin needed to worry about.
"Very well." Qi Mo agreed readily. Seeing Mu Yinyin depart, he headed toward his own car.
His driver, who was also his assistant, had been waiting. Once Qi Mo boarded, the car pulled away. The assistant glanced at Qi Mo through the rearview mirror, a hint of surprise crossing his eyes; it was clear to him that his master was in a good mood.
After a moment of hesitation, he asked cautiously, "Young Master, are there any further arrangements?"
Qi Mo looked up, sweeping a faint glance over him, and replied calmly, "Just as we discussed, prepare the contract."
The contract, naturally, referred to the partnership with Star Corporation.
The assistant felt no surprise. His master wouldn't have failed, especially since he was giving Star Corporation a significant advantage this time. If it weren't for her...
Before the assistant could continue his train of thought, Qi Mo’s icy voice cut through the air: "If you dare to entertain such idle thoughts again, you know the consequences."
The assistant’s face paled, and he immediately pulled his focus back, replying, "I understand. It won't happen again."
Qi Mo looked away, leaning back against the seat to close his eyes. The car fell into sudden silence. The assistant immediately turned on some soft, gentle music, as his master always enjoyed listening to such melodies in these moments.
...
Evening fell.
After having dinner with Jiang Ling, Mu Yinyin didn't plan to rest just yet; instead, she decided to go for a stroll downstairs.
The hour was still early, and everything was going smoothly. That afternoon, she had briefed Jiang Ling on the general terms of the collaboration with Qi Mo.
Jiang Ling shared Mu Yinyin’s suspicions, believing the man must have an ulterior motive—otherwise, why offer such a massive advantage to Star Corporation when the two firms had never collaborated before?
Mu Yinyin had said at the time that they would wait to see the final contract. If there were no issues, they could sign it. Whatever his true intentions might be, they would depend on whether they allowed him to execute them. Once the contract was signed, he wouldn't be able to renege.
Since this was a significant boost for the company, Jiang Ling ultimately said nothing more, though he remained puzzled as to why Qi Mo had approached them so abruptly.
As they were walking, a distinct, magnetic voice sounded from behind them.
"What a coincidence."
Mu Yinyin’s gaze stalled. She stopped and turned around to see a handsome man walking toward them, his hands tucked deep into his trouser pockets.
A flash of surprise crossed her eyes. "A coincidence?"
Was it truly a coincidence, or something else?
She began to wonder if she was being narcissistic.
Before she could dwell on it, the man chuckled, "It seems we are indeed destined to be connected; even our personalities are so similar."
Mu Yinyin: "..."
He was calling her narcissistic.
Jiang Ling looked at the man with a cold expression, remaining silent, though he had already vaguely guessed the man's identity.
Qi Mo smiled and stopped a pace away from them.
