Fu Shaoxiu did not know whether he should feel happy or sad. She had come, but not for him—she was here for that diary. He had pursued her for two years, and yet in her heart, he was not as important as a single yellowed diary. It showed just how high a place that person held in her heart.

But what did it matter? If he could not have her heart, having her body would suffice.

Fu Shaoxiu quietly studied Nan Zhi. She wore a trench coat and jeans, wrapping herself up tightly. Yet the more she concealed, the more he wanted to peel away each layer and discover the beauty hidden within. In his mind, images surfaced of her in a dress—her graceful figure, the alluring curves. His throat itched at the memory.

Nan Yao was pregnant, and for the first three months, she was untouchable. He missed the taste of a woman—especially one like Nan Zhi, whom he had never had. She was fairer, more beautiful, and taller than Nan Yao. Surely, she would be softer and more harmonious in bed as well.

Catching the undisguised desire in Fu Shaoxiu’s gaze, Nan Zhi let out a cold, silent laugh.

“Where’s the diary?”

Fu Shaoxiu tossed aside the towel in his hand and moved closer. Nan Zhi retreated until her back pressed against the cabinet. He braced his hands on either side of her, trapping her between his arms and the countertop. His brown eyes fixed deeply on her.

“Zhi Zhi, Sijing has been locked up at the police station for three days. How long do you plan to keep her there?”

Nan Zhi found it amusing. “I’m not even the Nan family’s young lady anymore. What right do I have to order the police around for my sake?”

“Nan Yao said you—”

Nan Zhi knew what he meant to say. She lifted a slender finger and tapped his chest. “Shaoxiu, why do you believe everything Nan Yao says? If I really had some old man keeping me, would I bother auditioning to be a host? Wouldn’t I just stay home and enjoy a life of ease?”

Fu Shaoxiu’s gaze shifted; her words made sense. But—

“She saw you get into a Lykan Hypersport.”

“Oh, that belongs to my best friend’s friend.”

Fu Shaoxiu knew Nan Zhi had two close friends: Xia Yanran, a journalist, and Qin Yubing, who was in the entertainment industry. It wasn’t impossible that they would know wealthy people.

“You know what your sister is like. Maybe she offended someone powerful and they’re using this to teach her a lesson. Don’t pin everything on me.”

Fu Shaoxiu caught the deeper meaning in her words. He curled his lips and smiled with delight. “So, you’re saying you’re not being kept by some old man?”

“Of course not.”

Staring at the mix of innocence and allure on her face, Fu Shaoxiu’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He reached out and picked up a glass of red wine from the counter. “Zhi Zhi, drink this, and I’ll give you back your diary.”

Nan Zhi took the glass, her long lashes lowered, the corner of her lips curving with an almost imperceptible cold irony. “And if I refuse?”

Fu Shaoxiu released her, walked to the bedside table, and took out a yellowed diary in one hand, a lighter in the other.

“Zhi Zhi, if you don’t drink, I’ll burn it right now. I keep my word.”

When Nan Zhi saw the diary filled with the secrets of her youth, memories surged forth. Her eyes grew misty, but she forced back the tears and downed the wine in one go.

Fu Shaoxiu watched her drink, satisfaction gleaming in his dark eyes. The wine was laced with drugs. Even if she was unwilling, tonight she would be his woman.

He used to have a thing for purity, would accept no less. But over these years, he’d played with many women outside—all chosen to resemble Nan Zhi. Yet they were all mere imitations. Now, with the original before him, he could not wait to taste her at last.

(Second update, asking for votes~ The results for the familiar face award will be announced tonight~ Don’t expect the male lead to heroically rescue the damsel and end up in bed together. That plot’s been done to death. The heroine isn’t a naive little rabbit—she doesn’t need saving every time~)
