Chapter 68: What to Do After Being Rejected
Nan Zhi rolled her eyes in silence. This was a conversation between a chicken and a duck—completely at cross purposes. Forget it, since he hadn’t brought up the subject of keeping her again, she decided not to discuss it with him further. Letting out a breath, she watched as the man parked the car in front of a private restaurant. She asked, puzzled, “We’re here because…”
“Alvis sent you a dress identical to the princess’s. Don’t you think you should invite him to dinner to show your gratitude?”
“It would be my honor to have dinner with Alvis,” Nan Zhi replied with a gentle smile.
Mu Sihan’s sword-like brows knitted together, his face chilling as he gave the name of a private room and growled, “Get out of the car.”
Nan Zhi thought this young master Mu was truly inexplicable. Wasn’t he the one who brought her here? She had also agreed to invite Alvis to dinner—what exactly had she done to displease him now?
Not in the mood to puzzle over his thoughts, Nan Zhi pushed open the door and stepped out of the car.
Mu Sihan fixed his gaze on her slender, elegant silhouette, but didn’t get out right away. Instead, he reached into the glove compartment and retrieved a brown wooden box and a small black torch.
Leaning his tall frame back against the seat, his long fingers took a cigar and placed it between his lips. He flicked open the torch; a blue flame roared forth. Bringing the end of the cigar close to the flame, it turned black and glossy. He extinguished the torch.
Narrowing his dark eyes, he slowly exhaled a swirl of smoke.
In the haze, the woman’s slender figure grew increasingly blurred, while the man hidden behind the smoke became ever more inscrutable and dangerous.
Suddenly, the sharp buzz of a vibrating phone shattered the silence in the car. Mu Sihan tapped the ash from his cigar into the tray and glanced at the caller ID.
He slid to answer. On the other end, Lan Yanzhi’s lazy voice drifted in. “Fourth Brother, why didn’t you show up to the meeting this afternoon? I asked Wei Lin, but he wouldn’t tell me why. Said to call you directly.”
Mu Sihan’s dark eyes half-closed. Gone was the rebellious defiance he showed Nan Zhi—now, only a cold, inscrutable chill remained. “What should a man do after being rejected by a woman?”
Lan Yanzhi chuckled unsympathetically, but didn’t dare laugh too brazenly, afraid to anger the man on the other end. “Fourth Brother, with your face, a woman actually turned you down? Could it be that one who blocked you on WeChat?”
Mu Sihan said nothing, but even across the line, Lan Yanzhi could sense the dangerous aura emanating from him. He quickly added, “Fourth Brother, knowing you, shouldn’t you just make a move after being rejected?”
“You think I’m some brute?”
“Hey now, I didn’t realize you had a gentlemanly side,” Lan Yanzhi’s laughter turned even more roguish. “Haven’t you heard? The way to a woman’s heart is through the ‘Y Road.’”
Mu Sihan’s seductive lips curled into a lazy smirk. “You might have a point.”
“So, Fourth Brother, just get on with it. If once doesn’t work, do it a few more times.”
Mu Sihan raised his brows. “You’re the one who can’t get it done.”
“I change women like I change clothes—how could I not? But you, Fourth Brother, when have you had a woman by your side in all these years? I’m just worried if you get nervous, you won’t even last five seconds—”
Mu Sihan cut him off coldly. “If you don’t shut up, I’ll kick you so hard you won’t even have a second left.”
“Bro, bro, my fault, I beg you, don’t kick! My bro’s the best, even after years without a woman, an hour or two wouldn’t be a problem!”
“Get lost!”
Mu Sihan hung up at once.
He lifted his head and checked himself in the rearview mirror. With a face like his, wasn’t it supposed to be a crime to look so good? And Lan Yanzhi actually suggested he go commit assault!
Damn woman, did she really think he was so desperate for her?
…
Nan Zhi entered the private restaurant, asked the waiter where the “Hui Pin Residence” private room was, and followed the direction indicated.
But just as she rounded a corner, a strong hand seized her delicate wrist.
