Chapter 79: Adorable Little One
When Nan Zhi stood on the balcony answering a call, she didn’t notice little Kai hiding behind the door. The little one overheard her growl, “Fu Shaoxiu, you’re shameless,” before hanging up abruptly.
Nan Xiaokai saw Nan Zhi gripping the railing tightly with both hands, evidently furious. Fu Shaoxiu? Xiaokai recalled hearing Aunt Yanran mention him before—apparently, he was Mei Zhizhi’s former fiancé, reputed to be the world’s worst scoundrel.
Back in the hospital room, Xiaokai sat on the sofa, his fair little hand propping up his chin as his dark, sparkling eyes shifted thoughtfully. He sighed. Suddenly, he regretted blocking Cool Uncle last time. But it didn’t matter; he could add him using his own little phone. He had a fantastic memory—Cool Uncle’s WeChat ID was etched clearly in his mind!
When Nan Zhi entered the room, she saw the little one sitting on the sofa, fiddling with his phone. She tiptoed over, hoping to sneak a peek. But before she could see anything, the child had already put his phone away.
“Mei Zhizhi, you can’t just peek at a man’s phone like that,” he declared solemnly.
Nan Zhi snorted, “And yet you’re always sneaking looks at Mommy’s phone, aren’t you?”
“That’s completely different! Brother Kai has to check whether any wild men are harassing you.”
Nan Zhi sat next to Xiaokai, unable to resist kissing his forehead. “Sweetheart, as long as I have you, I need no one else. I’ve never thought of finding another man.”
Nan Xiaokai immediately straightened up, staring at Nan Zhi for a moment. He sniffled, his voice a little downcast. “Even though I don’t want you to find some wild man, it would be selfish of me to want to be your only treasure. At the very least, until I grow up, you still need a strong uncle by your side to protect you.”
Nan Zhi recalled how, just days before, this little rascal had secretly contacted Mu Sichan behind her back. She poked his soft cheek, speaking sternly, “Nan Xiaokai, Mommy is giving you a formal warning: from now on, don’t talk to strangers, and absolutely don’t exchange contact information. Do you understand?”
Xiaokai knew just how frightening his mother could be when she was angry, so he could only nod obediently.
“Mommy has some things to handle tonight. Be good, go to bed early, okay?”
After Nan Zhi left, Xiaokai glanced at his phone. He had already sent a friend request to Cool Uncle before Mei Zhizhi gave him her warning, so that shouldn’t count as disobedience, right?
…
S.G. Group, Ning City Branch.
In the president’s office, Mu Sichan lounged in his leather chair, his long fingers tapping rhythmically on the sandalwood desk. His laptop screen showed the T.S. headquarters conference room, where over a hundred executives were seated.
This was a cross-border meeting Mu Sichan had postponed several times. Lan Yanzhi, S.G.’s vice president, was presiding. The atmosphere was heavy and severe; Lan Yanzhi made several attempts to lighten the mood, but every time he looked at Master Mu’s cold, stormy face, he gave up.
Forget it—this man was a perfectionist. Even a 0.01% mistake would earn a severe dressing down.
Lan Yanzhi decided it was best not to draw the fire onto himself.
After an executive old enough to be Master Mu’s father made a tiny error and was harshly scolded, the atmosphere grew even more oppressive. Everyone broke out in a cold sweat, feeling as though they were sitting on pins and needles.
Just then, a phone sounded somewhere in the room.
During meetings, Master Mu demanded that all phones be turned off—no distractions were allowed. Who would dare leave their phone on?
Everyone exchanged anxious glances, waiting for the culprit to step forward and confess. But then, Master Mu’s slender fingers reached out and slowly picked up the phone lying on the table.
