Chapter 49: Kitten

Nan Zhi found herself at a complete loss for words. He certainly had every reason to be arrogant, but where did his confidence come from, this certainty that she would become his woman? Besides, he had made it clear before: being his woman meant nothing more than being a mistress kept by him. Even in her darkest, most desperate moments, Nan Zhi had never allowed herself to fall so low.

She didn't respond. When she saw he had no intention of stopping the car, she reached out and grabbed the steering wheel. With a screech, Mu Sihan slammed on the brakes, the flashy sports car coming to an abrupt halt by the roadside.

Nan Zhi didn't want to speak. She unfastened her seatbelt and, moving swiftly, pushed open the car door. But she had only managed to crack it open when a long arm reached over from behind. With a powerful tug, she was pulled back into her seat, the car door shutting firmly at the same time.

"Young Master Mu, I have an important interview soon. Could you please show some mercy and stop making things difficult for me?" she pleaded.

Mu Sihan arched an eyebrow, dark eyes clouding over. He seized her wrist and, with a forceful pull, drew her over from the passenger seat, pressing her onto his lap.

The sports car was cramped; with both of them squeezed together, they nearly filled the entire cabin. Nan Zhi sat rigidly, her back ramrod straight. In her struggle, she accidentally hit the horn, which blared loudly, drawing the attention of pedestrians outside. Flushed with embarrassment and anger, she quickly ducked her head, seething with frustration.

But she knew all too well that in the face of this egomaniac, no matter how furious she became, he wouldn't care. If anything, it would only provoke his temper further. She was no stranger to how terrifying his rage could be.

If she acted tough, he would only be tougher.

Suppressing the storm of emotions inside her, Nan Zhi glared at the man before her, her delicate face taut with tension. His handsome features were cast in shadow despite the bright daylight, the sharp lines of his face lending him a cold, forbidding air. The way he looked at her was penetrating, as if he could strip her bare with a glance, seeing right through her.

Nan Zhi pressed her lips together, an involuntary wave of panic and dread rising within her. Was he going to strangle her again?

Seeing the fleeting panic in her eyes, Mu Sihan's lips curled in a cold, hard smile. "Blocked me, did you? Do you know what happens to women who try to play games with me?"

His long, slender fingers lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his deep, shadowy gaze.

Nan Zhi's breath caught in her throat. Under the oppressive intensity of his bloodthirsty aura, her complexion paled. She struggled to calm herself, trying to decipher his words.

Blocked him? Played games? Apart from the day of her first interview—when she'd deliberately dropped her ring under his seat, hoping to get a good look at him—she hadn't tried anything else, had she?

"I don't understand what you're talking about," she said quietly.

"That night, you sent me a photo of a beauty stepping out of the bath," he said, his voice growing husky and seductive as he recalled the image. "Sending that kind of photo—what were you inviting me to do, hmm?"

Nan Zhi grew more bewildered the longer she listened. She didn't even know his phone number—how could she have sent him any photo?

Mu Sihan looked at her confused expression and instantly understood what had happened. But he said nothing. His flawlessly handsome face dipped to her elegant neck, inhaling softly. "My little kitten, I wonder if you’re as sweet as sugar."

Before Nan Zhi could grasp what he meant, a warm, damp sensation pressed against the skin of her neck; the man bit her there, not too hard, not too soft.

Nan Zhi stared at the dark head buried against her collarbone and drew in a sharp breath.
