Nan Yao stood not far behind Zhuang Jingjing; she had no intention of stepping forward to speak up for the manager. This manager was clearly petty and narrow-minded—frightening him a little wouldn’t be a bad thing. After all, he had finally secured the position of manager at the Royal Court and naturally feared any complaints. But in the next moment, the manager waved to the security guards, who immediately stepped forward and roughly pushed Zhuang Jingjing and Yu Xiaoting toward the main entrance.

Zhuang Jingjing’s face drained of color in fright. She called out to Nan Yao, “Yao Yao, I don’t want to go out, please save me…”

Nan Yao’s expression darkened to its extreme, her fingertips pressing hard into her palm. She strode up to the manager, her tone laced with irritation. “Manager, how can you treat my guests like this?”

Having Zhuang Jingjing and Yu Xiaoting forcibly removed was an insult to her, a disgrace to her reputation!

The manager’s smile did not waver. “Miss Nan, these are the Royal Court’s rules. If Miss Nan does not agree, you are welcome to choose another venue for your banquet with your friends and family.”

Nan Yao’s chest heaved with anger.

For a manager to disregard her and the Nan family so blatantly was utterly infuriating!

The manager said no more to Nan Yao. He walked over to Private Room No. 1, politely knocked on the door, and when Nan Yao saw him push it open, his expression was deferential and respectful—completely unlike the coldness he showed toward her and Zhuang Jingjing.

A lowly sycophant who looks down on others!

Suppressing the urge to storm into Private Room No. 1 to see who was celebrating a birthday inside, Nan Yao gritted her teeth and returned to Private Room No. 2.

…

Halfway through the meal, a few guests who had been drinking began speaking louder. “Miss Nan Yao, isn’t Stephen the headliner? Can we get him out soon? We’re eager to see him!”

Nan Yao’s appetite vanished entirely. Her face flushed and paled in turn as she pressed her fingertips into her palm.

Nan Weiye had already learned that Stephen was not invited by Fu Shaoxiu. Upon hearing Stephen’s name, his expression darkened, and he felt utterly humiliated.

He shot Nan Yao a cold, angry glance, as if silently blaming her: If your unruly friends hadn’t made a fuss after seeing Stephen, how could this misunderstanding have happened?

Nan Yao trembled, tears welling up in her eyes, nearly spilling over.

Fu Shaoxiu noticed her distress, squeezed her hand gently, and lowered his voice. “It’s just a misunderstanding. We’ll explain things to everyone and clear it up.”

But Nan Yao knew it was more than a misunderstanding. Proud Nan Weiye would surely pin this incident on her.

“Shaoxiu, do people these days think they can bully others just because they have power and influence? Today is my mother’s birthday, and the people in Private Room No. 1 are celebrating their birthday too. Don’t you think it was deliberate?”

Nan Yao’s suspicion was correct—Mu Sihan’s arrangement of Private Room No. 1 was intentional.

Whatever her little darling couldn’t get from the Nan family, he would give her.

Delicious food, a high-class musical, a romantic atmosphere—

And two incredibly handsome men, one tall and one small, by her side.

Nan Zhi felt as if she were in a dream, unreal and surreal.

As the musical neared its finale, she turned her head toward the man sitting beside the little fellow.

At some point, he had removed his suit jacket and vest, loosened his tie, and reclined leisurely against the chair back, his long legs crossed. His sharp, defined features looked handsome and alluring in the soft lighting. He swirled a glass of red wine between his fingers, a wicked, charming smile curling at his lips.

A strange and complicated feeling welled up in Nan Zhi’s heart.

She never imagined that this volatile, temperamental man would take the trouble to celebrate her birthday.

Perhaps pleased by his gestures tonight, she found herself stealing glances at him several times—an unprecedented behavior for her.

Aside from his volatile temper and unpredictable moods, he ate with an unusually slow, deliberate elegance, as if a born aristocrat.

“Miss Nan, here is the dessert…”

The waiter repeated twice, but Nan Zhi paid no attention.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her calf. The man who had been under her gaze all evening kicked her abruptly. He then growled, “What are you staring at? One more look and I swear I’ll kiss you.”

The little fellow was engrossed in the musical and didn’t hear a word Mu Sihan said. But Nan Zhi and the waiter did. Nan Zhi shot a flustered glare at the shameless man. “I wasn’t staring, just noticed you look pretty handsome tonight.”

Mu Sihan froze for a moment.

A few seconds later, he gave a strange look and muttered, “Are you crazy? When have I ever not been handsome?” Then he quickly looked away, no longer making eye contact with Nan Zhi.

Nan Zhi touched her nose, puzzled. Could he actually be shy?

He was so fierce and thick-skinned, surely not that innocent. Would he really get embarrassed just because she called him handsome?

It must be her imagination!
