Chapter 81: A Swift Departure
Alvis had no idea what he had said wrong. Even though the person on the other end of the line had fallen silent, Alvis could sense an intense chill and murderous aura emanating from him.
"Mr. Mu?" he ventured.
Mu Sihan's jaw was clenched tight, the lines of his face rigid, and flames flickered in his dark eyes. His large hand gripped the phone with such force that he was teetering on the edge of fury.
"Follow her and see which room she goes into," Mu Sihan commanded, moving to stand before the floor-to-ceiling window. Night had already fallen, and the city lights outside sparkled brilliantly. His handsome face, reflected in the glass, looked almost ferocious.
Alvis made his way toward the elevator. Neither man spoke again, but Alvis could faintly hear Mu Sihan's heavy breathing.
Mu Sihan stared broodingly out the window, the fire of anger in his chest threatening to spiral out of control.
He recalled that day at the private dining restaurant—he had heard that man named Fu invite her to the Hyatt for the evening.
He had deliberately ordered expensive dishes, deliberately refused to eat anything, forcing her to return to the apartment and cook for him. After eating, he had even spent half the night sleeping on her small, narrow sofa.
He thought she had made up her mind, that she would no longer see that man.
He had been busy with work these past few days and hadn't sought her out. Yet she, in turn, had given him quite the surprise.
For the first time, Mu Sihan felt as though he was the one being played.
Even though she wasn't his, and he had no right to interfere in her choices.
But he was thoroughly displeased!
If she really entered room 8088, he might not be able to control his temper—he could kill her!
It wasn't long before Alvis reported back. "Sir, I saw Miss Nan go into room 8088."
Even without seeing Mu Sihan in person, Alvis could feel the violent aura radiating from him—a murderous intent so palpable it was as if someone had been killed already. Alvis's legs turned weak.
Alvis had just seen a striking, handsome man open the door for Miss Nan.
With Mr. Mu in the picture, she was still coming to a hotel to meet another man at night—no wonder Mr. Mu was furious.
But would that raging fire spread to him? If he hadn't carelessly mentioned seeing Miss Nan, Mr. Mu would never have known—
Just as Alvis feared the powder keg would explode in his direction, the call was abruptly cut off.
...
Lan Yanzhi walked from the vice president’s office to the president’s suite, just in time to hear the sound of something being smashed inside.
He pushed the door open a crack and saw Mu Sihan hurl his laptop to the ground with violent force, making Lan Yanzhi's own heart tremble.
Damn, who had the guts to make Fourth Brother this angry?
Could it be that little kid?
Lan Yanzhi, with not a hint of propriety, began to imagine a scenario: was the little one actually Fourth Brother’s illegitimate son, and now threatening him because he didn’t want the child?
Still lost in his own imaginings, Lan Yanzhi was startled when the office door was yanked open from inside.
He nearly stumbled and fell.
Facing Mu Sihan, whose expression was dark and whose presence burned with a ferocity that seemed capable of consuming everything, Lan Yanzhi shivered involuntarily. “F-Fourth Brother, what happened?”
Mu Sihan shoved him aside without a word and strode out like an arrow loosed from its bow.
Though Mu Sihan was known for his temper, Lan Yanzhi hadn’t seen him look this murderous in a long time. Worried something might happen, he hurried after him.
...
Hyatt Hotel.
Nan Zhi entered room 8088. Fu Shaoxiu had just finished showering; he wore a white bathrobe and was toweling off his damp hair.
Seeing Nan Zhi’s fresh, fair face without a trace of makeup, a complex emotion flickered in Fu Shaoxiu’s deep brown eyes. “Zhi Zhi, I knew you would come.”
