Inside the military district’s special care hospital, Lone Wolf Leng Ruoshuang and Li Mu waited quietly in the laboratory.

At last, the laboratory door opened, and two doctors in white coats emerged, expressionless.

“How is it? Can this resurrection herb be used on the general?” A flicker of urgency passed over Leng Ruoshuang’s calm face.

“I’m afraid not,” one doctor replied coldly, shaking his head.

“Why not? This miraculous herb can bring people back from the brink of death!” anger boiled in Leng Ruoshuang’s eyes.

“And who can prove that?” the doctor challenged.

“I can!” Li Mu stepped forward. “I saw with my own eyes someone gravely wounded recover in less than five minutes after taking the herb.”

“Yes, it really works. Let’s try it on the general!” Even the usually cold Lone Wolf’s voice turned pleading.

But the doctor snorted dismissively. “Are you doubting science or my expertise? Who is the general? Do you think you can just test whatever nonsense on him? If something goes wrong, who will take responsibility?”

“I will!” Leng Ruoshuang said firmly.

“Can you really take responsibility?!” The doctor dropped the words and left coldly.

Watching the two doctors walk away, Leng Ruoshuang’s eyes burned with frustration.

“What now, Captain? Are we just going to give up?” Li Mu’s face was full of anger as well.

“Give up? Never.”

“But the herb is locked inside the lab, with twenty-four-hour surveillance and guards in the special care ward…”

Leng Ruoshuang waved dismissively, eyes fixed on the laboratory. “Have you forgotten what the Lone Wolf squad does? This little obstacle won’t stop us.”

With that, she strode toward the lab, Li Mu following determinedly.

At the lab’s entrance, two soldiers stood rigidly on guard.

One reached out to stop Leng Ruoshuang. “Comrade, this is the lab. No one without a pass may enter… ah!”

Before anyone could react, Leng Ruoshuang struck swiftly—the soldier grunted and collapsed.

Meanwhile, Li Mu had already subdued the other guard.

The laboratory door was locked, requiring fingerprint verification to open.

Leng Ruoshuang’s face remained impassive as she summoned her spiritual energy, forming a blade of cold blue light as sharp as a knife’s edge.

In the next instant, the blade sliced through the metal door effortlessly, as if cutting through tofu, leaving a large hole.

The lab was empty. Scanning the room, they found the small resurrection herb on one of the testing benches.

A small portion had been cut off for experiments, but Leng Ruoshuang didn’t hesitate, grabbing the remaining large piece and heading straight for the familiar special care ward.

Behind her, Li Mu tended to the unconscious guards, but the damaged door was unmistakable.

After some effort, they found a white cloth in the storage room to cover the hole.

At this point, any extra second they could gain for the captain was precious.

With the resurrection herb in hand, Leng Ruoshuang seemed to dissolve into a shadow as she dashed toward the special care ward.

The force of her charge nearly shattered the ward’s door.

Inside, the two nurses relaxed when they saw it was Lone Wolf Captain, finally lowering their guard.

“The Lone Wolf Captain is here again to see the general?”

“Only you, Captain, no matter how busy, always make time to be by the general’s side.”

“If the general wakes up one day and knows of your devotion, he’d surely be moved to tears.”

“Ah, but when will the general finally wake?” the nurses chatted idly.

“He’ll wake very soon,” Leng Ruoshuang replied softly, gazing tenderly at General Yuan Ao lying with eyes closed and a feeding tube through his nose.

“Could I ask you both to step outside? I want to be alone with him.”

The nurses exchanged a glance. “We understand your feelings, but we can’t leave. It’s our duty to watch over the general.”

“Then I’m sorry,” Leng Ruoshuang said, and in a blink, appeared beside them.

Two sharp smacks echoed and both nurses fell unconscious.

In the monitoring room, two soldiers chatting about dinner suddenly saw the nurses fall in the general’s ward.

“Trouble! Something’s wrong!”

“Sound the alarm! Go check it out!”

Alarms blared instantly.

The on-duty soldiers responded swiftly as a small team raced toward General Yuan Ao’s ward.

Inside the ward, with the nurses down, Leng Ruoshuang wasted no time.

She quickly took the large piece of resurrection herb, chewed it thoroughly, and fed it through the general’s feeding tube.

She had watched the nurses many times and performed the procedure with practiced speed.

Soon, the herb’s essence flowed into General Yuan Ao’s body.

At that moment, several soldiers burst in, guns raised toward Leng Ruoshuang.

A faint smile curved her lips; she offered no resistance.

Her purpose had been achieved—why fight now?

The doctors who followed wore faces of fury and grave concern.

“Captain Lone Wolf, what are you doing?! What did you feed the general?”

“It’s the resurrection herb! I’m trying to save him!” Leng Ruoshuang remained calm.

Li Mu stepped forward as well. “I’m involved too. If you’re arresting anyone, take me along!”

“Li Mu!” Leng Ruoshuang glanced at him, a flicker of gratitude in her eyes.

“This is madness! Do you know the general’s life hangs by a thread? That resurrection herb is a childish lie. And you, an elite squad leader, actually believe it?!” The attending doctor was beside himself with anger.

“I believe!” Leng Ruoshuang answered resolutely.

“So do I!” Li Mu’s voice rang out with equal conviction.

“Take them away. The command will deal with this.”

“Wait!” Leng Ruoshuang’s voice cut through the tension. “Give me five minutes. If he doesn’t wake after five minutes, do whatever you want with me.”

“Fine! Five minutes, that’s all. I don’t believe in such miraculous herbs,” the doctor said, though he dared not delay.

He ordered the medical staff to monitor every vital sign and prepared for extraordinary measures to sustain the general’s life.

Thankfully, the general’s vitals remained stable—neither worsening nor improving.

Seconds ticked by, each one weighing heavily on Leng Ruoshuang’s heart.

Finally, five minutes passed.

The ECG monitor by the bedside showed no change.

General Yuan Ao lay with eyes tightly shut, breathing faint.

“Five minutes are up. The fact is, that resurrection herb has no effect!” the attending doctor declared, his face still grave.

Yet, there was a hint of sympathy in his gaze toward Leng Ruoshuang.

Though he disapproved of her actions, he understood her pain trying to save the one she loved.

“Take them down to the barracks. The general’s condition still needs observation. If nothing serious develops, there’s no need to report further.”

They were all part of the same unit, and even the doctors could not bear to be harsh.
