Chapter 31: Go! Let’s Teach Him How to Behave!
The middle-aged woman was instantly stunned, her knees buckling as she trembled uncontrollably. But she was furious—so angry that tears streamed down her face. “You murderers selling fake medicine! Give my son back his leg!”
Just then, an elderly man appeared, flanked by his entire family, young and old alike. “It’s here! It’s them!” he shouted. “That fake plaster was bought from them—I spent two thousand yuan, and it did absolutely nothing!”
Behind him, a gaunt, middle-aged man in his forties was forced to step forward, tossing a used piece of fake plaster to the ground. “You frauds! Swindling old folks with counterfeit medicine—have you no conscience at all?”
A woman at his side chimed in, “Exactly! That was our family’s hard-earned savings. How could you stoop so low as to cheat us like this?” But as her gaze landed on the hatchet clutched in Over-the-Shoulder Dragon’s hand, her courage visibly faltered.
With more and more people arriving to cause trouble, Over-the-Shoulder Dragon grew impatient. “Beat it! Don’t make a scene in front of me! If you delay my business any longer, I’ll split you in two with this axe!”
The three tough-looking young men behind him also each brandished a hatchet.
Watching from the sidelines, Xiang Nan’s eyes grew cold as frost. “Who are these bastards? Shameless scum!”
Wu Liang, Zheng Hao, and the others had been following behind Xiang Nan. “Nan, these guys are from the Hatchet Gang. Their leader is called Brother Dragon. The Hatchet Gang has been running wild in the capital these last few years—they’re our Eagle League’s fiercest rivals. Lately, they’ve been muscling in on our street stalls all over the city. I never thought they’d stoop to impersonating our Treasure Grove and scamming people with fake medicine!”
Xiang Nan’s lips curled in a sneer. “They dare steal my turf and peddle fake medicine in my name? Come on, let’s show them how to behave!”
Wu Liang and the others were already itching to teach the Hatchet Gang a lesson, and now, at Xiang Nan’s command, they grew even more excited.
Meanwhile, among the onlookers crowding the stall, a few concerned citizens began to point and whisper. “Thugs! Scum! Criminals!” “We don’t want this plaster anymore—it’s all fake! Give us our money back!” “Yes! Refund us now!” “We never should have trusted these gangsters!”
Seeing she had support, the curly-haired auntie, still fuming, threw caution to the wind and pounded her feeble fists against Over-the-Shoulder Dragon’s chest.
With a swift move, Over-the-Shoulder Dragon caught her arm. A loud crack echoed—he had dislocated her arm on the spot. The woman howled in pain.
The gaunt, middle-aged man couldn’t stand by any longer. “Hey! You little punks actually dare to hit people?!”
But before he could even reach out, Over-the-Shoulder Dragon swung his hatchet, making the man fall silent and clutch his wife instead.
But Over-the-Shoulder Dragon wasn’t finished. He seized the man by the shoulder and swept his legs out from under him, sending him crashing to the ground. “Ouch!” the man howled in agony.
The elderly man couldn’t take it anymore. “You hit my son—I’ll fight you to the end!” Raising his cane, he tried to charge forward. But he moved so slowly—it was like watching someone in slow motion, barely at a quarter of normal speed.
Over-the-Shoulder Dragon sneered, raising his hatchet to hack at the cane. How much force could the old man muster against such a blow? If that hatchet landed, the old man would be crushed.
But the hatchet never fell. In midair, it was caught in a vice-like grip by Xiang Nan.
Seeing Xiang Nan, Over-the-Shoulder Dragon burst out laughing. “Well, well! Where’d this yellow-haired puppy come from, thinking he can act tough in front of your Uncle Dragon?”
The three young men behind him rushed forward, only to be blocked by Wu Liang, Zheng Hao, and the others.
One of the young men recognized Wu Liang. “Brother Dragon, this guy’s from the Eagle League.”
Zheng Hao spat, “Are you blind? This is our Eagle League’s young master, Brother Nan! Show some respect!”
Over-the-Shoulder Dragon snorted with laughter. “The Eagle League’s young master? Just a delicate pretty boy. I could finish you with one swing of my axe!”
Xiang Nan gave a cold chuckle. “Why don’t you try it?”
As he spoke, he quietly exerted force, pushing Over-the-Shoulder Dragon’s hatchet back with sheer strength.
Over-the-Shoulder Dragon, seeing Xiang Nan’s youthful, student-like appearance, hadn’t taken him seriously. But as his hatchet was bent back by Xiang Nan, he realized this was no ordinary opponent.
“Kid, you’ve got some strength. Fine—your Brother Dragon will play with you today!” He swung his hatchet at Xiang Nan once more.
Xiang Nan sidestepped with barely a tilt, letting the hatchet miss. Using the momentum, Over-the-Shoulder Dragon stumbled past Xiang Nan’s side.
Xiang Nan slammed his elbow into him, sending Over-the-Shoulder Dragon sprawling on the ground like a flattened toad—a thoroughly humiliating fall.
People might have thought Over-the-Shoulder Dragon had some real skills, but aside from his brute strength, he was utterly worthless.
In truth, Over-the-Shoulder Dragon was no weakling—against ordinary people, he could take on ten at once without breaking a sweat. But Xiang Nan’s own abilities had reached the peak of the first tier, nine stars. His keenness, perception, and speed were all far beyond that of any normal person.
With ease, Xiang Nan knocked him down, then planted his foot heavily on Over-the-Shoulder Dragon’s face, pinning him firmly to the ground just as he was about to get up for another round.
The henchmen, seeing this, dared not move. They stood trembling, their knees knocking together.
“B-Brother Dragon… hang in there… we’ll go get help!” They all bolted for their lives.
From above, Xiang Nan commanded, “Bark like a dog.”
Over-the-Shoulder Dragon still struggled to rise. Wu Liang handed Xiang Nan the hatchet that had fallen aside. Xiang Nan took it and pressed the heavy end against Over-the-Shoulder Dragon’s eager hand.
Over-the-Shoulder Dragon’s eyes widened in terror. The hatchet weighed over two hundred pounds—if Xiang Nan pressed down even a little, his hand would be crushed.
“Aaaagh—!” His wails echoed through the night market.
Xiang Nan said coolly, “If you’d just obeyed earlier, you wouldn’t have to suffer like this.”
He lifted the hatchet. The ground beneath was smeared with blood and bits of flesh.
“I-I’m sorry… I was wrong… please, have mercy, big brother, spare me!” Over-the-Shoulder Dragon whimpered.
Xiang Nan asked, “What did you do wrong?”
“E-everything… I was wrong about everything, aaah…”
“Say it! What exactly did you do wrong?”
Over-the-Shoulder Dragon was nearly in tears. “I shouldn’t have sold fake medicine… shouldn’t have hit people…”
He still didn’t get it. Xiang Nan pressed a little harder.
“AAAH! I shouldn’t have stolen the Eagle League’s territory… shouldn’t have sold fake medicine in Treasure Grove’s name and cheated people… I was wrong, I was wrong!”
“And the money you swindled from these people?”
“I’ll pay it back! I’ll return every last cent!”
“The medical bills?”
“I’ll cover them! I’ll pay it all!”
Only then did Xiang Nan let him go, lifting his foot from Over-the-Shoulder Dragon’s head.
Where his face had been, the ground was slick with a mix of blood, snot, and tears. Scrambling up, Over-the-Shoulder Dragon hurriedly emptied his pockets, returning every bit of money he’d just stolen.
With Xiang Nan watching, he dared not try any tricks. Only after he’d stripped off everything of value—even his heavy gold chain—did he flee in utter disgrace.
