Chapter 17: My Wife, So Mighty!
Without a doubt, the shotgun, known as the king of close-quarters combat, is a weapon of immense power. It can almost entirely ignore an opponent's armor or protection—no matter who stands before it, even a godlike foe, one shot settles it all.
Unrivaled in close combat!
There is no better phrase to describe the shotgun than this. The S686 is a double-barreled hunting shotgun, chambered in 12-gauge, capable of firing two rounds in quick succession. Its damage at close range is devastating; it can instantly kill a single enemy, and if your reflexes are sharp enough, there's even a chance you could drop two enemies in different positions with two rapid shots.
Two shots, massive damage—it's a weapon for the bold.
The strengths of the S686 are clear, but its flaws are equally obvious. With only two shells and a slow reload speed, there's almost no room for error. If you fail to eliminate your target in two shots, your fate is pretty much sealed.
The enemy was wielding a fully kitted M416, a full-auto rifle capable of relentless fire. If Yang Hao had missed his shot, he might have been the one lying on the ground instead.
Yang Hao had only two chances to strike just now.
Perhaps, in truth, only one.
Fortunately, he was the one left standing in the end.
“Qingqing Zijin killed Nongfu Spring Has a Field with an SKS!”
“Ling Xue killed Restless Youth with a SCAR-L!”
“You You Wo Xin killed A Plate of Stir-Fried Greens with an M16A4!”
“You You Wo Xin killed A Cabbage with an S686!”
As Yang Hao fired his shotgun and knocked down his assailant, more shots rang out around him, and four kill notifications flashed across the screen. The players who had been clutching their bellies and lying prone a moment before were instantly turned into loot crates.
When Yang Hao fired, he clearly noticed someone upstairs shooting as well.
Luckily, not far away, Lin Zijin had taken care of the crisis for him, eliminating the player hiding upstairs.
Otherwise, even if he managed to down the charging enemy with his shotgun, he would have stood a high chance of being gunned down by the other.
With all four enemies eliminated, their entire squad was wiped out.
This scene, witnessed by the live stream audience, left them dumbfounded.
Yang Hao wasn’t streaming himself, so they couldn’t see his perspective. From Lin Zijin’s stream, they saw Yang Hao dash into a house after taking a bullet, and before they could even catch a glimpse of him, kill notifications began popping up, showing he had downed enemies.
Then, they saw him drop another foe with his shotgun, followed by Lin Zijin finishing off the player in the building across the way.
In this squad wipe, Yang Hao seemed to play a pivotal role.
The fans could hardly believe it.
Could Brother Bluff really be this skilled?
It had to be a fluke!
Perhaps Yang Hao’s earlier lackluster games had left too deep an impression; the audience was simply not ready to accept this.
But facts are facts—even Yang Hao, modest as he tried to be, had to admit it.
He was truly excellent.
If others could read Yang Hao’s mind, they’d probably drown him in spit.
They’d seen shameless before, but not like this. Who boasts about their own greatness out loud?
But of course, no one knew.
And even if someone did, it would hardly matter. Those who knew Yang Hao would say that, when the insults came, he’d only reveal another of his virtues:
Honesty!
Poor, innocent Yang Hao would surely protest: If I’m this good, and you insist on tearing me down, how are the less talented supposed to feel?
He felt he simply couldn’t be that cruel.
And if you were to call that shameless...
Well, Yang Hao would probably say, I’m so outstanding that if I don’t let you be a little jealous, you might feel left out!
With the fight over, Yang Hao flashed a knowing smile and began looting.
His looting was practiced and efficient.
This was clearly the skill of a battle-hardened veteran.
A 4x scope, first aid kit, energy drinks, painkillers...
Looking at the riches in the loot box, Yang Hao felt a surge of satisfaction.
A hefty haul!
He swapped his M16A4 for an M416, fitted it with all the best attachments and a 4x scope—now he had a fully kitted M416 in hand.
After looting this crate, Yang Hao’s gaze drifted to the two boxes nearby, anticipation growing in his chest.
Bang!
As Yang Hao made his way to the next loot box, a muffled gunshot rang out.
The moment the shot sounded, Yang Hao, mid-sprint, was hit in the arm—a spray of blood, his health dropping a notch.
Judging by the sound, it was a suppressed Kar98k.
Yang Hao looked toward the source of the shot, recalling the sniper who’d fired earlier.
Even if it wasn’t the same person, it was likely someone from their squad.
He’d been so caught up in looting that he’d nearly forgotten there were still enemies lurking nearby. Apparently, they hadn’t left after all.
The shot had only grazed his arm—so even with the deadly Kar98k, he’d lost just a chunk of health, nothing life-threatening.
Yang Hao sprinted fast—after missing the first shot, the sniper had no time for a second.
By now, Yang Hao had reached the spot where the previous enemies had hidden; two more crates lay on the ground.
He healed back to full, downed two energy drinks, and started looting again.
In these two crates, Yang Hao found a rifle suppressor, an 8x scope, a damaged level-three vest, and a battered level-three helmet.
Though the armor and helmet had lost some durability, they were far from useless. Yang Hao quickly equipped both.
Now, with level-three armor and helmet, Yang Hao felt emboldened and decided to peek toward the direction the gunshot had come from.
Rat-tat-tat...
Bang!
No sooner had he exposed his head than two shots rang out from that direction.
Had he not been prepared and ducked back quickly, he might have been riddled with bullets—his level-three helmet wouldn’t have saved him.
The ruthless gunfire left Yang Hao seething.
Damn it!
Do they really take me for Hello Kitty just because I’ve been quiet?
Who gave you the guts to shoot at me?
Was it Liang Jingru?
Cursing under his breath, Yang Hao attached the 8x scope to his fully-kitted M416.
Once he finished, he darted out from a different angle.
As he moved, he saw someone he’d been keeping an eye on pop his head out.
Yang Hao whipped up his M416, instantly aiming, the 8x reticle landing squarely on the man’s head.
Bang!
Yang Hao fired.
At the very instant he pulled the trigger, he dropped prone.
As blood burst from the enemy’s head, a sniper shot whizzed past and struck the ground behind Yang Hao.
Had his reaction been a split second slower, that bullet might have found his skull.
Still, even if it had, it wouldn’t have been fatal—he was protected by a level-three helmet.
At that moment, as Yang Hao fired his shot, more gunfire erupted from the distance. By the time he got back up, two more knock notifications flashed across the screen.
“Qingqing Zijin knocked out I’m a Segment Buddy 111 with an SKS headshot!”
“Lu Qi knocked out Old Iron Handsome with an M416!”
Seeing these two notifications, Yang Hao couldn’t help but shout in his heart—
My wife is amazing!
