Chapter 130: Who Is Actually Surrounding Whom? (Bonus Chapter for the Helmsman!)
"Brother Bluff, you're invincible!"
"Damn, Brother Bluff, you are just too damn cool!"
"That’s how a real man should act—utterly dominant!"
"Who else? I ask you, who else is left?"
"A one-man army, absolutely majestic!"
"How is it that Brother Bluff feels not like a single person, but an entire military force?"
"To hell with them! Take them down one by one; let's see who dares to make a move now."
The livestream chat was completely buried under a deluge of messages. No one had expected Yang Hao, acting entirely on his own, to help Lin Zijin neutralize so many crises. Eyes fixed on that proud figure holding his rifle, countless viewers felt their blood boiling from his recent display. One man, one gun, holding everyone at bay!
The audience even noticed that not a single shot had struck Lin Zijin on her way over. While her driving skills certainly played a part, it only served to further demonstrate the terrifying capability of Brother Bluff. One might ask, who else could pull this off? Most of them couldn't even dream of it, yet Brother Bluff had done it. As Lin Zijin drove up, stepped out of the vehicle, and stood once again by Yang Hao’s side, the viewers erupted in frantic, excited cheers.
Landing, Lin Zijin scanned her surroundings and silently equipped her Kar98k. She had come for this: to fight side-by-side with him.
Truth be told, Lin Zijin was angry. Even when things went wrong during the earlier stages of the match and she found herself trapped on the spawn island, her mood hadn't fluctuated much. She had never been overly concerned with victory or defeat in this qualifying round; she didn't feel she *had* to win. However, when Yang Hao landed in K-City, the actions of certain players had begun to irritate her. Although Yang Hao fought his way out and made those with malicious intentions pay the price, that was only the beginning.
As they left the spawn island, although they didn't encounter many people on the way, the sight of vehicles maliciously destroyed along the road—targeted specifically at them—only fueled her displeasure. Yet, there was nothing she could say; after all, this was a competition. No matter what others did, even if she was being maliciously targeted, Lin Zijin would never utter a single word of complaint. Her way had always been to use her own strength to make those people repent for what they had done.
If they dared to provoke her, they should have been prepared to face her wrath. However, she hadn't acted on it yet. Partly because, aside from the "Cowardly Streamer" and Night Shadow they met on the road, they hadn't encountered anyone else. More importantly, she had been caught up in the thrill of speeding, driven by Yang Hao, and had no mind for anything else.
But all of that changed the moment Yang Hao found himself in dire straits. When others trained their guns on him, she felt the urge to kill. This was an attack on him, and by extension, an attack on her. Neither was something Lin Zijin could tolerate. She hadn't cared about winning this match—spending time having fun in-game with Yang Hao was a pleasant enough experience—but circumstances had forced her hand.
With Lin Zijin now present, the two of them were completely encircled by the surrounding players. While Yang Hao and Lin Zijin had already thinned the crowd significantly, the constant gunfire combined with the new safe zone meant that more and more people were converging on their location. The number of people surrounding them was increasing rather than decreasing.
Watching this, the commentator Xiao Qi sighed and muttered, "The new safe zone has settled here. If things continue as expected, the number of people appearing here will only grow. The situation is very disadvantageous for them; they need to find a way out, or the longer this drags on, the greater the threat they will face."
"Indeed, their situation is quite dire! But how to leave is the real problem," added Xiao Mo, prompting the hearts of many viewers to sink. As Xiao Mo said, whether Yang Hao and Lin Zijin could safely leave had become a major issue. When Lin Zijin was approaching, Yang Hao could provide covering fire, but if they were to leave now, they couldn't leave one person behind to protect the other. If they tried, one of them would inevitably be trapped. If that were the case, Lin Zijin’s trip over would have been completely futile.
But everyone, including the commentators Xiao Qi and Xiao Mo, was wrong. Lin Zijin never intended to leave alone. She knew that in the previous situation, even with her covering him, Yang Hao—who lacked a vehicle—would never have been able to escape. Once they stepped out of the shelter of the airdrop crate, she couldn't protect him on her own. It was impossible for Yang Hao to run out of that position.
So, she came to him. And having made that choice, she already had her plan. She had no intention of leaving at all. A fight to the death! That was her mindset then, and it remained the same now.
Although Yang Hao didn't know her thoughts, he understood that trying to drive out of there was no longer realistic; it would simply turn them into a target for everyone else. They had managed to hold on this long thanks to a combination of their own skill and a fair amount of luck. Luck is a fickle thing, and Yang Hao couldn't be sure it would stay on their side.
However, once Lin Zijin successfully linked up with Yang Hao, the remaining survivors didn't dare to make a move. They had been intimidated; having witnessed the terrifying strength of both Yang Hao and Lin Zijin, they were filled with hesitation.
Not everyone felt that way, though. Some who had just arrived and saw the two trapped began to get ambitious. There is never a shortage of naive fools in this world; they weren't unafraid of death—they simply didn't understand why they would die.
At that moment, on a small hill not far from Yang Hao and Lin Zijin, a player quietly poked his head out and extended a long, dark gun barrel. But the very next instant, two shots rang out simultaneously! The player who had just moved was instantly headshot!
An instant kill! The sound of the shots sent a chill through everyone. As the camera cut back to the airdrop site, Yang Hao and Lin Zijin were both cycling their bolts in unison.
These two... recalling everything that had just transpired, the shadow of the duo loomed large over everyone's hearts. A deathly silence fell over the surrounding area. Unconsciously, a strange look appeared on the faces of the viewers watching the stream. In that brief moment, they felt as if they were experiencing an illusion: it didn't seem as though Yang Hao and Lin Zijin were the ones surrounded, but rather the people around them.
In this situation, who was really surrounding whom?
