Chapter Eighty-Eight: Bai Ci's Choice, Part Two
No wonder no one ever mentions the details of Chen Ou’s deeds. For a man like that, if he does not wish his merits to be known, the Alliance will hide him well.
Of course, if he wants fame, the Alliance will promote him just as vigorously. In a sense, Chen Ou has already reached the point where the Alliance can treat him with a relatively equal attitude.
And after that, when Professor Oak spoke of Arceus and such, Professor Juniper felt little sense of reality; that sort of thing was simply too far from her. In her eyes, Arceus was nothing more than a legend...
On the other side, Bianca was listening with stars in her eyes.
Nanami, seeing Bianca’s expression, immediately understood that the girl was probably no easy case either. Though she did not seem to have any obvious problem at present, Nanami knew that issues of conviction and ideology were the real danger. Greed and desire could not truly be satisfied. But there were always ways to make greed and desire retreat.
Yet convictions were different. Those who were truly steadfast in their beliefs would never abandon their thoughts. They would pay even with their lives to achieve their goals.
And ideals like Red and Green, who dreamed of becoming the strongest and pursued that path properly, were not a problem at all.
But if one were like the kind Chen Ou had once mentioned—those who used the wrong means to reach a good end—then that was the most terrifying sort of person.
Nanami had also heard of Team Aqua and Team Magma. Chen Ou had said that Maxie and Archie were not bad people. They had only taken the wrong road.
Clearly, in Professor Juniper’s eyes, the lovely young girl before them had exactly that tendency...
Thinking of it that way, it was better to let her stay with Chen Ou. If she could survive safely, then Chen Ou would surely lead her thoughts down the right path, though perhaps one with a slightly peculiar bend. If she could not survive safely...
Such is fate...
[Still, she does look like a tough one.]
Nanami looked at Bianca with a mildly strange expression.
Bianca noticed Nanami’s gaze and turned to look at her in confusion, casting a questioning glance her way.
A smile instantly appeared on Nanami’s face, and she pushed the little round biscuits on the table toward Bianca, signaling for her to try one. Bianca, puzzled, picked up a biscuit and ate it in one bite.
Then... she happily kept eating... and kept nodding furiously at Nanami, signaling that the little biscuit was truly super delicious.
Nanami smiled, and her fondness for the girl rose another notch.
[Let little Bianca go with Chen Ou. Among all of us, only Chen Ou is best at reshaping people’s thinking... I just wonder exactly where little Bianca’s line of thought has gone wrong.]
Nanami was thinking this when Professor Oak finished speaking of Chen Ou’s “glorious” deeds. He lifted the tea before him, took a sip, and said, “Chen Ou has only been out for about two months, but what he has experienced has already exceeded my imagination, so I really do not recommend that Bianca travel with him. It is far too dangerous.”
Professor Juniper finally recovered from Chen Ou’s story and began to think seriously about the matter.
“It’s all right. I can do it.”
However, before Professor Juniper could speak, Bianca took the initiative and said it herself.
Everyone’s gaze shifted to her. Bianca was not nervous at all. She spoke generously, “I’m very interested in Dr. Chen Ou’s journey. The dangers he’s faced are actually not dangerous at all. I won’t take part in the major incidents, and clearly the creator god Arceus approached Dr. Chen Ou without any malicious intent. So I think Dr. Chen Ou’s experiences were, in essence, only repeated narrow escapes.”
Bianca’s clear, lark-like voice faded into the room, yet it still lingered in everyone’s hearts.
To be honest, Bianca made a reasonable point, but the key was not what had already happened. It was the unknown events yet to come.
“I’m not helpless either. I won’t drag Dr. Chen Ou down!”
Determination and confidence were written all over Bianca’s delicate little face. On this point, Juniper did not doubt her. Bianca’s talent was truly excellent, so excellent that it reminded her of Green and Red in their youth. Of course, whether she could reach such heights, Juniper did not know.
But there was one thing Juniper did know.
The Unova region was desperately short of strong trainers... desperately short...
That old fellow Alder had become disheartened after his old partner passed away, then complained that none of the Elite Four could take his place, and so he began wandering everywhere in search of a so-called successor. Yet after so much time, he still had not found anything to show for it...
And on top of that, he had nearly angered that girl Caitlin to death, almost getting into a fight with Alder on the spot...
Of course, Juniper, who could see shades of Red and Green in Bianca, did not want Bianca’s talent to go to waste. As for why she would not hand her over to Alder...
First, Juniper truly did not trust that unserious old man. Moreover, since she could already get in touch with Professor Oak, why not let Bianca be trained by Professor Oak instead?
One had to know, Professor Oak’s way of teaching was also very famous. After all, he was the one who had trained Red and Green, and Nanami had also shone brilliantly in the fields of coordination and research.
Not to mention that monster, Chen Ou...
It could be said that there was no one mediocre in Professor Oak’s research institute.
What was more, Bianca was far too fixated on the matter of liberation. So Juniper had been thinking of bringing Bianca to Kanto to follow Professor Oak. That would bring Bianca’s future benefits beyond counting.
“Are you truly certain, Bianca?” Professor Oak looked into Bianca’s eyes and asked earnestly. He was not worried about whether Bianca would burden Chen Ou; he only knew that Chen Ou was basically not going to die by any means other than courting death himself.
What he was truly worried about was Bianca. Although he had not known her for very long, he believed Juniper’s judgment. Bianca certainly possessed remarkable talent.
If such a genius were to perish on the journey, that would be the real loss.
“I’m very certain, Professor Oak!” Stars seemed to shimmer in Bianca’s eyes, and a joyful curve lifted the corners of her lips. “I’m not some delicate flower kept in a greenhouse, Professor Oak! I am a cecilia flower that lives in the wild.”
Professor Oak looked at the little girl, momentarily unsure what to say.
“Since you insist...” he said. “Then I’ll take you to find Chen Ou.”
“Thank you, Professor Oak!!!”
Bianca rose and bowed excitedly to Professor Oak.
Professor Oak waved it off. “No need to thank me. To be honest, I’ve never been very at ease about that fellow Little Ou either. If someone can travel with him, I can feel a bit more reassured.
[That way, Little Ou, you won’t have to be so lonely anymore.]
Professor Oak lifted his head and looked at the ceiling as he thought this.
