Chapter 39: Skiing 3
Fu Yanchen and Shen Mengxia glided slowly across the snow, savoring the beautiful moment.
"Big Brother, you are such a great skier, and you teach so well!"
"It’s because you’re clever, Xiaxia. You learned so quickly that you’re already skiing on your own, and at quite a pace, too."
"But Big Brother, you haven't taught me how to turn or stop yet!"
Their laughter intertwined, blending into the surrounding snowy landscape to form a picturesque scene. Their figures appeared so harmonious against the pristine white slopes, as if they were fated to carve out these precious memories together in this very place.
However, a piercing roar shattered the tranquility. A massive snowplow, like a frantic beast, came hurtling from behind. Its wheels spun wildly, kicking up a flurry of snow. The driver’s face was deathly pale, with beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. He pressed the horn desperately while struggling to regain control of the runaway vehicle, but all efforts seemed in vain. Bystanders were thrown into a panic; some screamed and fled in all directions, while others stood with mouths agape in horror, shouting in vain at Fu Yanchen and Shen Mengxia, trying to warn them of the encroaching danger.
Because of their thick ski attire and the distance, the couple heard nothing. Just then, a figure not far ahead of them suddenly stopped and turned to look back. The man immediately sensed the impending disaster. His expression changed instantly; with heart-wrenching anxiety, he frantically gestured at the two, trying to grab their attention and signal the danger.
This desperate individual was none other than one of the bodyguards specifically assigned by Fu Yanchen to protect Shen Mengxia. He waved his arms wildly while shouting at the top of his lungs, "Danger! Speed up! Turn now! Faster!"
His voice echoed across the open snowy field, but the howling wind and the sound of skis scraping against the ice drowned out most of his cries. Nevertheless, the bodyguard did not give up, continuing to warn them with everything he had, hoping to avert a potential catastrophe.
Fu Yanchen seemed to realize something. Struck as if by lightning, he reflexively whipped his head around. In an instant, his gaze fell upon the runaway snowplow hurtling toward them at an alarming speed. His pupils contracted to pinpricks, his eyes sharpening like a hawk’s, as if he could pierce through the heavy mist before him. Facing such a dire situation, Fu Yanchen did not hesitate or falter for a single second.
He reached out his right hand, gripping Shen Mengxia’s slender hand with an iron-like strength. At the same time, he shouted in a voice that was low yet extraordinarily firm and steady, as immovable as a mountain: "Xiaxia, don't be afraid! I am here to protect you! Follow me closely!"
Before the words had even faded, he exerted all his strength, pulling Shen Mengxia toward a patch of ground that appeared safer. The runaway snowplow, like a ferocious beast, lunged toward them with claws bared. Just as a collision seemed inevitable, Fu Yanchen displayed superhuman agility and strength. He reached out with his left hand, swept Shen Mengxia into his arms, and tucked her securely under his right side. In a flash, he veered to the side with lightning speed, narrowly dodging the impact of the snowplow.
The two tumbled to the ground not far from the bodyguard. This time, it was Fu Yanchen and Shen Mengxia’s turn to shout: "Get out of the way, quick! Speed up! Ski faster, hurry!"
The massive blade of the snowplow was inches from the bodyguard's feet. Shen Mengxia was on the verge of tears, screaming, "Save him! Someone, please save him!"
