Chapter 29: Quietly Registering for Marriage Part 1
Shen Mengxia’s eyes widened. It took her a long moment to find her voice. "Big Brother, this is all so sudden. We..."
Fu Yanchen interrupted her, "Wasn't it you who said you wanted to marry me?"
A shy blush crept across Shen Mengxia’s face. She lowered her head slightly, her gaze flickering as she dared not meet his eyes.
Fu Yanchen’s lips curled into a gentle smile. He rose slowly and walked over to stand before her. He reached out to stroke her cheek, savoring the softness of her skin. Shen Mengxia’s heart began to race; she trembled slightly, as if she could hear the rhythmic thrumming of her own heartbeat.
Fu Yanchen’s eyes were filled with deep affection and indulgence. He whispered, "Xiaxia, are you willing? I know you are still young and have national projects to complete. We can register our marriage first and take things slowly. If you ever regret this, I will return your freedom at any time."
Shen Mengxia looked up, their eyes locking, and she saw the sincerity and love within his gaze. Her expression softened, and the corners of her mouth turned up in an involuntary smile. Fu Yanchen leaned in, his breath brushing against her ear, making her body shiver uncontrollably. His hand slid down her shoulder to gently wrap around her waist.
Shen Mengxia stiffened for a heartbeat before relaxing into his warm embrace, her heart overflowing with happiness and a sense of security. Fu Yanchen leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. After the fleeting kiss, he pulled her tightly into his arms.
Shen Mengxia hadn't even had time to return the kiss. Compared to the kiss she had shared with Ye Huaiting before, Fu Yanchen’s was gentle and delicate—it left her wanting more.
"What's going on? Are the leads finally going to sweeten the plot?"
"Get them married right here!"
"Wedding! Wedding!"
"This development is so sudden!"
"The male lead is clearly being pressured into marriage by his mother."
"We need more mothers like her—what a divine assist!"
The live-stream comments, never ones to miss such juicy gossip, appeared right in front of Shen Mengxia at the perfect moment.
"My marriage is something I want to decide for myself. I don’t want to marry someone I don’t love, and I certainly don't want to be a puppet for a family alliance. Do you understand what I'm saying?" It seemed that in this, his first confession, Fu Yanchen was struggling to find the right words.
Yet, standing opposite him, Shen Mengxia could feel the sincere and intense emotions deep within him. She knew that if she missed this chance, it might be gone forever. For a man as proud as Fu Yanchen to lower his guard, open his heart, and take the initiative to propose was truly rare. "I agree. Let's do as you said—let's register first."
The moment he heard her consent, Fu Yanchen could not hide his surprise and delight. He lifted Shen Mengxia high and spun her around in circles until she cried out, "No, I'm going to be sick! Put me down!"
Just as the two were lost in their own blissful, inseparable world, the sound of footsteps approached. The housekeeper hurried over to report, holding several exquisite invitations, and presented them to Fu Yanchen with a solemn expression.
Fu Yanchen took them calmly. After opening one and glancing at it, a mocking smile touched his lips. "These people are certainly well-informed! It’s a feast of traps; none of them have good intentions. They’re all just coveting your future husband."
Hearing this, Shen Mengxia shot him a playful, coquettish glare. She gripped his arm tightly and said, acting the part of a spoiled lover, "No matter what they think, you’re mine now! We’re going to the Civil Affairs Bureau first thing tomorrow morning. I’m going to be the first bride to register that day!"
With that, she tilted her head triumphantly, already envisioning herself in a white wedding gown, clutching a bouquet of flowers, standing happily by Fu Yanchen’s side.
