Chapter One Hundred and One: High-Ranking Officer Junsha
“What’s going on? Someone reported to Kunsa that… hmm? It’s you again?” Yumi had just arrived riding her Speedhound and immediately recognized many familiar faces present.
“No, it’s too late,” Am sighed, setting down several empty bottles.
Yumi stepped forward, her gaze falling upon the partially charred corpse, causing a shiver to run through her.
Before officially becoming a Kunsa, Yumi truly hadn’t realized the world was far less safe than she had imagined...
Of course, whenever everyone reported their work, Yumi would glance at the reports from other Kunsas in neighboring districts and wonder... was it only her area that was unsafe?
“Was he... burned to death?” Yumi crouched down, suppressing her discomfort to examine the body.
“No, the fall was the main cause of death. From there…” Though Am wasn’t a forensic expert, as a pharmacist, she could still assess such injuries.
She pointed toward the top of the “First Hokage’s” head.
Yumi looked up and furrowed her brows in concern, then quickly released her large Bido—or rather, her Bido!
“There’s a figure up there! Be careful!” Yumi said, flipping onto the bird to pursue.
But Am stopped her. “No, no need to be so tense. It’s Heiji and Conan... they rushed up first.”
Yumi: ...
“Those two kids!” Yumi muttered in complaint.
“He Yeo, you’re on duty again?” He Yeo approached to greet.
“I was originally on my way off duty…” Yumi replied, pursing her lips—Golden City’s security wasn’t much better!
It had just happened during the day… and now again?
Am looked at He Yeo in surprise. She had the impression that He Yeo and Yumi knew each other well.
Yumi had only recently been transferred to Golden City, right? Even if they’d met during the day’s incident, they shouldn’t be this familiar.
But standing together, Am immediately understood why He Yeo seemed vaguely familiar—He Yeo and Yumi shared some family resemblance... no! More precisely, they both bore the “Kunsa trait”!
However, Yumi’s Kunsa trait seemed to be from a different lineage, so Am hadn’t noticed at first glance.
“Right, I need to hurry and bring them down. I heard Aunt Shizuka and the others are personally on their way!” Yumi said, as if recalling something, and quickly took off again on her Bido.
“Eh? Could it be that my mom is also...” He Yeo started to ask.
But Yumi had already taken flight and didn’t hear what He Yeo said.
When He Yeo turned around, she just caught sight of two dark shadows streaking over the heads of the onlookers, landing right in front of her!
Two women dressed in high-ranking Kunsa uniforms sat sternly astride two Speedhounds, surveying the scene from side to side.
Am: ...
Judging from what Yumi had said earlier, Am guessed they were also of a similar age—refusing to admit getting older—though their appearance didn’t quite show it.
Unlike ordinary Kunsa uniforms, theirs were one brown and one black, looking more prestigious.
“He Yeo? What are you doing here? Where’s Heiji?” The woman in brown asked coldly.
But her “cold” tone wasn’t directed at He Yeo; one could sense a doting warmth behind her gaze—her coldness aimed at someone who had promised to take their daughter out but had now left her at a crime scene...
“Heiji is…” He Yeo tried to explain to her mother.
Am, standing nearby, had by then basically confirmed that these two women were probably Heiji and He Yeo’s mothers.
Shizuka Hattori appeared in the original Conan series, though according to the storyline, as a Police Superintendent, she should be Heiji’s father...
Wait! Am suddenly realized—high-ranking Kunsa like Police Commissioner or Superintendent couldn’t be fathers; they must come from the true Kunsa clan.
Also...
From Yumi’s earlier attitude, Am seemed to know who her “backer” was!
And now that Yumi had been directly assigned under “Aunt Shizuka,” perhaps this was an important step forward?
“You must be Am, right? Sorry, I can only invite you to my home after the case is closed. The cause of death is mainly the fall injury? What medicines did you use just now?” Shizuka approached, showing a hint of politeness before asking about the situation.
They had planned to visit Heiji’s home tonight, so Aunt Shizuka knew the basics about Am and the others.
Although there was a risk of contaminating the scene, both Shizuka and Ginzi regarded Am kindly for her efforts to save the victim—whether or not the rescue succeeded, saving lives was the priority.
Am honestly recounted the medicines she had used to Ginzi, who was taking notes herself, to avoid interfering with the ongoing investigation. She also took the opportunity to observe Ginzi and Shizuka more closely.
Ginzi smiled confidently, brushing her stray hair behind her ear, and asked, “Why do you keep staring at Auntie?”
“He Yeo really looks like you! Yumi and Aunt Shizuka seem similar too...” Am felt that although they all bore the “Kunsa look,” they subtly belonged to two branches.
“Heh heh heh, the Kunsa clan is large. Yumi and Shizuka are closely related, so their resemblance is obvious. As for He Yeo… I wish she looked like me!” Ginzi said happily.
Looking like Ginzi meant He Yeo might have great potential in wielding the “Kunsa power.”
Seeing how much Aunt Ginzi enjoyed this, Am complimented, “Indeed, if you were twenty years younger, no one would be able to tell you apart from He Yeo!”
Ginzi: ...
“This is none of your business. Stay away from the crime scene!” Ginzi shot him a glare.
Am didn’t know why Aunt Ginzi’s mood could change so abruptly!
Just then, the sound of flapping wings was heard—Yumi, riding her Bido, had brought Heiji and Conan down.
“Mom... um, you and Aunt Ginzi came in person?” Heiji was about to greet his mother, but seeing her stern expression, his spirit immediately deflated.
“Nonsense! Is this a place for children to play?” Shizuka scolded her son.
“I was protecting the scene too…” Heiji protested, but after a sharp look from Shizuka, he dared not speak further.
He Yeo quickly tried to smooth things over. “Yes, yes, leave it to Mom and Auntie! Didn’t we also plan to meet at Pakura Ramen later...”
“What a joke! A life-or-death case just happened before my eyes. How can I be in the mood... to go to Pakura Ramen with the beautiful and lovely Miss He Yeo? Miss He Yeo, don’t starve yourself waiting for me. Take Ran and the others and go ahead... heh heh heh...”
Heiji initially snapped irritably but immediately sensed the murderous glare from Aunt Ginzi and changed his tone.
He Yeo gave him a big eye-roll, then took Ran and Sonoko aside, saying, “Honestly... let’s just ignore him!”
Yet when she glanced back at Heiji’s expression, there was clearly hope in her eyes—though she complained, He Yeo really admired how Heiji cracked cases.
Am quietly mused: Hmm, the Kunsa clan is vast, and these two aunts are distantly related, so Heiji’s situation probably doesn’t count as “incestuous.”
Meanwhile, Am saw Aunt Shizuka snatch a piece of evidence from Heiji—what looked like a “Magatama” jewel!
“It really is connected to the case from back then...”
“Magatama... the legendary treasure left by Uchiha Madara...”
