Nan Ye’s subordinates hurried off to search for her.
Meanwhile, Yan Heru felt utterly miserable. Why had she been kidnapped yet again? And, just as before, the people who had taken her seemed to have no intention of harming her at all.
She had been knocked unconscious and carried away by that group of men. Now that she had awakened, the person standing before her was Qi Shengsheng.
Yan Heru could not understand what Qi Shengsheng was trying to do.
“Heehee, Sister,” Qi Shengsheng said with a giggle, gazing at Yan Heru.
“Um... I’m not your sister,” Yan Heru replied awkwardly.
Qi Shengsheng froze for a moment at the answer, then burst into laughter. “It’s only a form of address. I didn’t expect you to be so adorable, actually quibbling over something like that. But... you are my sister~”
Yan Heru felt especially awkward.
But why had Qi Shengsheng called her sister at the end?
Moreover, she had never encountered anything like this before. She had been tied up and brought here, yet the person in front of her had not only refrained from abusing her, but had also provided her with delicious food and fine accommodations. This was not some dark, damp dungeon either. Instead, it was a bright, spacious room.
“Um... why did you bring me here?” Yan Heru asked. She had already lost count of how many times she had asked someone that question.
Qi Shengsheng did not answer immediately. Instead, she took a sip of tea, then looked at Yan Heru with a grin.
“You’re asking that the wrong way, Sister~ I didn’t kidnap you. I rescued you. After that bastard Nan Ye took you, you were in danger.”
Yan Heru frowned. “You...”
Qi Shengsheng set down her teacup and rose to her feet.
“Sister, let me first explain who I am and why I rescued you. That is what you’re most curious about right now, isn’t it?”
Yan Heru nodded without denying it.
“I am the daughter of the Regent of the Nanyang Kingdom. But, Sister, do you know who my mother is?” Qi Shengsheng suddenly asked.

Yan Heru naturally knew nothing about that, so she shook her head.
“My mother’s name is Nan Xing,” Qi Shengsheng replied.
“Nan Xing?” Yan Heru did not recognize the name, and her brows furrowed in confusion.
Qi Shengsheng had not expected Yan Heru to be unaware of it. After a moment of surprise, she continued explaining.
“Nan Xing is a princess of the Nanyang Kingdom, the younger sister of Nan An—and your mother.”
The first few words did not interest Yan Heru much, but the final sentence made her eyes widen.
“What did you say?” Yan Heru wondered if she had misheard. Yet Qi Shengsheng’s grave expression clearly told her that she was not joking.
Only then did Yan Heru realize something: she had never known the original owner’s mother’s name. Perhaps the original owner had been too young at the time and simply could not remember it. That would have been understandable.
But... how had she suddenly acquired a sister?
“Shocking news, isn’t it? Don’t rush. I’ll slowly tell you everything you want to know. I had originally planned to come find you after preparing everything and settling matters here, but I never expected that bastard Nan Ye would get to you first and try to capture you. Fortunately, my subordinates obtained information about you in time. Otherwise, it would have been disastrous if he had actually taken you away,” Qi Shengsheng explained.
Yan Heru was now completely unable to make sense of the situation. First she had been captured, then rescued, and now she had suddenly gained a younger sister who shared her mother—or perhaps an older sister. She was not even sure which.
“Um... could you tell me about our mother first? Were we born to the same mother? But aren’t you the Regent’s daughter?” Yan Heru asked.
Qi Shengsheng nodded. “Yes. I am the Regent’s daughter, and so are you.”
Yan Heru had just heard another astonishing revelation. Nearly every shocking fact seemed to concern her personally.
“I... I am the Sixth Miss of the Yan family. How could I suddenly become the Regent’s daughter?” Yan Heru asked, frowning.

Seeing Yan Heru’s reaction, Qi Shengsheng smiled and began to explain the whole story to her.
Yan Heru and Qi Shengsheng had the same mother: Nan Xing. Nan Xing was a princess of the Nanyang Kingdom and Nan An’s younger sister. Because of a royal power struggle years ago, along with other circumstances, Nan Xing had been forced to leave.
Later, while fleeing, Nan Xing met the man she loved and became pregnant. Because of the dangers surrounding her, however, she gave birth to Yan Heru within the Yan household. To the outside world, Yan Heru was a daughter of the Yan family, but in truth, she was the Regent’s child.
At that time, the present Regent had not yet become the Regent—or rather, he had not yet returned to the position that rightfully belonged to him.
The Regent had lost his memory for certain reasons. During that period of amnesia, he fell in love with Nan Xing. Qi Shengsheng had not yet been born then. While he was without his memories, the Regent’s identity was that of a wandering swordsman from the Beiyu Kingdom. Nan Xing had no idea who he truly was and likewise believed him to be nothing more than a wandering swordsman.
Later, when the Regent encountered danger and was on the verge of death, his subordinates finally found him and helped restore his memories.
He then returned to his rightful position as Regent. Although he had recovered the memories he had lost, he had not forgotten what had happened during that time. He therefore sent his subordinates to find Nan Xing.
Nan Xing was deeply shocked when she learned the truth. She had never imagined that the man she loved was actually the Regent of the Nanyang Kingdom. His position gave him enough influence to help her oppose the Empress more effectively.
During that period, Nan Xing and the Regent conceived another child: Qi Shengsheng. That was why Qi Shengsheng was five years younger than Yan Heru.
However, the relationship between Nan Xing and the Regent remained unknown to the royal family of the Nanyang Kingdom. Their goal was to completely reform the kingdom’s ruling house and overthrow its decayed, entrenched powers.
After Qi Shengsheng grew old enough to understand the tangled grievances and enmities surrounding her family, she formed a plan and told her father—the Regent—about it.
Her plan was to use her identity to find a way into the power struggles within the Nanyang royal family. It had been set in motion long ago, and to this day, the royal family of the Nanyang Kingdom had still failed to discover it.
By the time Yan Heru heard this much, she finally understood the relationship between Qi Shengsheng and Nan Ye. At first, she had assumed that a pitiful woman had mistakenly given her heart to the wrong man. She had never expected that these were actually two formidable players locked in a battle of wits—and that neither of them seemed to know the other was plotting against them.
Yan Heru suddenly found the whole situation both hilarious and exasperating.
