Chapter 22: Creating Life
After they laid their cards on the table, the heavy burden weighing on Xu Xin’s heart finally lifted. She looked at Luo Feng with a radiant smile, her eyes shining with light.
Truly worthy of the man she had chosen!
The entire afternoon, the two strolled through the streets, eating and drinking, their atmosphere sweet and harmonious.
As for the person tailing them?
Who cared?
After learning that Luo Feng was not only a rare psychic but also a formidable War God, even without knowing much about the martial world, Xu Xin understood that her family would never give up such a brilliant son-in-law. No, he was a powerhouse, a genius among the strong.
Wang Xingping’s kind was only comparable to ordinary young warriors at the battle general level, but compared to a War God—a psychic War God—there was simply no comparison.
...
At dusk, by the roadside.
Luo Feng and Xu Xin stopped beside a sleek black luxury car.
“I’m leaving now~” Xu Xin said softly.
“Alright, go ahead,” Luo Feng nodded. Though there was a trace of reluctance and fondness in his heart, he showed none of it.
Xu Xin looked at Luo Feng’s calm expression and pouted her lips, but knowing that this was just his nature… she sighed, then stepped forward and wrapped her arms tightly around his waist, softly saying,
“Be careful when you go out to fight monsters… You don’t just have family now, you have me as your girlfriend too.”
“Girlfriend?” Luo Feng was taken aback. He seemed to recall that he hadn’t confessed to Xu Xin yet?
Well, this was fine—it saved him the trouble of confessing...
“What’s with that look?” Xu Xin’s gaze turned playfully dangerous. She snorted, “We’ve even kissed, and you still won’t admit I’m your girlfriend?”
“Uh, no, no, of course you’re my girlfriend.” Luo Feng wasn’t foolish; answering incorrectly now would be disastrous.
“Hmph, quick on your feet,” Xu Xin rolled her eyes before turning to get into the car.
Inside the car, the once natural Xu Xin’s cheeks had turned a soft pink for some unknown reason. Recalling everything that had happened that afternoon, she could hardly believe it was really her.
When had she started acting so coy...
---
Though a bit shy, Xu Xin’s heart was filled with sweetness.
“Let’s go home.”
“Yes, Miss,” the middle-aged driver replied respectfully.
By the roadside, Luo Feng watched the black car’s taillights vanish into the distance, his gaze growing resolute.
He knew that with Xu Xin returning home, all his information would be exposed to the Xu family. Once the Xu family knew, it wouldn’t be long before the great powers found out as well.
To preempt any trouble that might arise, he planned to suppress everything with absolute power.
“Bai, I’m planning to head to the wilderness tomorrow.”
“Bai?”
Inside Luo Feng’s void space, Bai Chen sat cross-legged, eating soul-affecting tomato-flavored chips and occasionally sipping a “Soul-Cola.” A massive screen in front of him played some anime.
Despite Luo Feng calling his name repeatedly, Bai Chen ignored him completely.
Fed so much “dog food,” now that he was needed, should he come running? Bai Chen snorted, deciding to leave Luo Feng hanging for a while.
Coincidentally, the anime on screen showed a silver-haired character being cruelly cut down by the villain boss.
“Damn it, what kind of plot is this!”
Outside, Luo Feng silently called “Bai” several more times, but there was no response, leaving him feeling helpless and awkward.
However, Luo Feng found it strange—Bai should be quite old, well past the age for romantic entanglements. He shouldn’t be so unsettled.
“Could it be that Bai has never been in love?” Luo Feng wondered.
“Are you mocking me again?!” Bai Chen, already irritated by the plot, was thrown off guard upon hearing Luo Feng’s thoughts.
Luo Feng: “...”
So Bai really hadn’t experienced love before... Luo Feng’s face tightened as he fought to suppress a laugh.
If he laughed out loud and truly angered Bai, what if Bai refused to assign him tasks?
After Luo Feng’s earnest apologies and reassurances, Bai Chen’s anger finally subsided—though it had never been that serious to begin with.
---
Bai Chen had a sudden idea and casually edited some monster-hunting missions for Luo Feng.
Luo Feng opened the task panel and glanced over the list.
[Task: Kill 100,000 Beast Soldier-level monsters]
[Task: Kill 1,000,000 Beast Soldier-level monsters]
[Task: …]
[Task: Kill one Lord-level monster (repeatable)]
All the rewards were unknown, but Luo Feng was used to that by now. The higher the difficulty, the more points Bai granted him—knowing this was enough.
...
“Sigh, so lonely.”
In the luxurious, brightly lit void space arranged by a virtual projector, resembling a shrine, Bai Chen still felt lonely.
Though he could chat with Luo Feng to ease his solitude, most of the time Luo Feng was busy with his own affairs, leaving Bai Chen alone.
If he couldn’t conjure up old anime, novels, and movies from memory for entertainment, he might have gone mad after even three days, let alone a month.
“How do people who live alone and never go out cure loneliness?” Bai Chen pondered seriously.
Adopt a cat? Or a dog?
The power of ‘creation’ as a golden finger wasn’t limited to crafting techniques or items—life itself could be created.
Before, Bai Chen hadn’t considered this—partly because he wasn’t that lonely yet, and partly because his energy was limited. Luo Feng was weak, so his plan was to first strengthen Luo Feng’s abilities before making any changes that might alter the world line and cause unexpected consequences.
But now, Luo Feng’s strength was no longer weak by Earth’s standards. With secret techniques like the Elephant Tome and the Shadow Death Sword—both far surpassing any earthly manuals—there was no urgent need to give him more gifts. What Luo Feng needed most was time to master and refine these techniques.
“Decided! I’ll raise a cat!” Bai Chen clapped his hands, having made up his mind.
Cats are so adorable; definitely must have one!
