Chapter Forty-Three: The Finest Medicine
Buzz!
Just as my sword was about to pierce the Ghost Gate of Master Wu Wang, suddenly a black hand emerged above his head and seized my blade.
Heh heh heh heh...
“Young man, don’t think you can do whatever you please just because you possess a magical artifact. Today, I will show you the true power of a corpse ghost!”
“Master, fall back!”
Damn it, at that moment I was utterly speechless, and I suddenly found myself completely unable to move, not even a twitch.
Master Wu Wang’s hand reached directly for my chest.
“If I can’t refine a double yin-yang corpse, then a double-yang yin corpse will suffice!”
His voice was chilling to the bone, and in that instant, a deathly aura enveloped me.
“Don’t harm Xiao Fei!”
Just as darkness clouded my vision, a familiar voice reached my ears, and the next moment, a cool, jade-like hand seized me, pulling me back several steps.
At that moment, the black hand that had gripped my blood-slaying formation sword crumbled to dust.
Master Wu Wang’s body trembled violently, his eyes rounding in shock.
“Who are you?” he demanded, clearly referring to Xi Yue standing at my side.
“A mere servant who has yet to transform into a corpse ghost dares to be so arrogant? Seeking death!” Xi Yue’s voice was icy and, in this frigid night, sent chills down one’s spine.
“Heh heh heh heh, you think you can kill me? Just you two?”
Master Wu Wang seemed unfazed by Xi Yue’s sudden appearance, instead gazing hungrily at the shimmering silver-blue Sea Tear gem embedded in Xi Yue’s brow.
Then I watched as Master Wu Wang swallowed the soul crystal of Zhang Qianqian whole. The moment the crystal entered his body, a massive vortex appeared in the space before my eyes, drawing in the surrounding yin energy with unstoppable force.
Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle...
“Xi Yue, what’s happening?” I asked.
Tu, who had been injured in the earlier exchange, had already lost our spiritual connection, or I would have asked him directly.
“He wants to absorb all the yin souls within several meters, devouring them to increase his power.”
“Ah, Xi Yue, we must stop him!”
Xi Yue shook her head gently and replied in a soft voice, “His body has not yet transformed into a corpse ghost; by forcefully devouring a soul of extreme yin now, he hopes to become a body of utmost yin, using the surrounding energy to complete his transformation. But he’s overlooked something—there is already a yang corpse here. We only need to awaken it; yin and yang counteract each other naturally, no need for us to intervene.”
Seeing the weariness on Xi Yue’s face, I realized she might not have much strength left.
As she spoke, I strode to Li Hongbo’s corpse; the nine paper figurines were still there, their souls trembling in fear from our previous actions.
I tore open Li Hongbo’s chest, calming my mind.
“Yang soul paves the way, a hundred ghosts kneel, calamity abates, fire of evil fortune, raise the spirit!”
Reciting the incantation, I traced a spirit-raising talisman across Li Hongbo’s chest with my still-bleeding finger. This talisman was originally a forbidden charm, used to animate corpses—a technique ordinary spirit masters would not dare employ. But in today’s world, as Chen Chuyi once told me, many unscrupulous spirit masters specifically seek out those of great fortune who die violently, refining them into zombies for their own use. So, though forbidden publicly, in practice, the spirit-raising charm is widely used.
“Release!”
Suddenly, my finger felt as if burned by fire, and Li Hongbo’s eyes snapped open. But there was no spark of life in those eyes—only a terrifying emptiness. As his body stood upright, twin flames flickered within his gaze.
“Go!”
I knew the advantage of this spirit-raising charm—it required a blood offering to nurture the corpse, or else the zombie would become a true bloodthirsty fiend born from a corpse-breeding ground.
Responding to my command, Li Hongbo pushed off with force, leaping toward Master Wu Wang. At that moment, Wu Wang was still gathering yin energy, his transformation unfinished.
With a thud, Li Hongbo was sent flying, and Master Wu Wang’s body flashed away into the darkness.
“Yang Dong, just wait! Once my transformation is complete, I won’t spare you!”
Bah...
I spat, and Li Hongbo chased relentlessly after Master Wu Wang.
“Let’s go, Xiao Fei. This yang corpse will pursue him endlessly—let’s head back.”
Seeing the exhaustion on Xi Yue’s face, I nodded quietly.
Xi Yue waved her hand, tearing open space, and in the next instant I found myself before the door of the Longevity Agency.
There, beneath the moonlight, I noticed a streak of white in Xi Yue’s once-black hair.
“Xi Yue, what’s wrong?”
She said nothing, only stood beneath the moon. Tonight’s moonlight was especially cold and clear, and seeing Xi Yue bathed in it, my heart inexplicably ached.
“Tu, Tu…”
I tried repeatedly to reach Tu with my mind, and after a long while, a weak voice finally responded.
“Master, what is it? I was gravely wounded—my soul nearly shattered. If I hadn’t just devoured the Ten Thousand Souls Banner, I would have been forced into another ten-year slumber.”
“Look, what’s wrong with Xi Yue?”
Tu glanced at Xi Yue, sighed, and said, “Mistress has exhausted her powers. If there were a pure yin treasure for her to absorb, she’d recover swiftly, but such artifacts are exceedingly rare now. Earlier, when I drew the buddha light from the soul of extreme yin, I seemed to glimpse a hidden trove, but with Master Wu Wang’s attack, I had no time to investigate.”
Seeing Xi Yue with her eyes closed, worry surged in my heart.
“Forget the hidden trove for now—what else can help Xi Yue recover quickly?”
Tu’s tiny form shifted within the Blood-Slaying Formation scroll, grabbing the Gathering Yin Umbrella floating nearby and swallowing it whole. After a loud burp, he said, “Master, your blood is the best medicine. If Mistress drinks your blood, not only will she recover, but her powers will greatly increase… Of course, it works for me too!”
A tremor passed through me, but I didn’t hesitate. Seeing Xi Yue so weak, my heart ached. I bit open my finger, still fresh from earlier wounds, and pressed it to Xi Yue’s pale lips...
PS: Goodnight!
