Chapter 44: The Gathering of the Dao
When Su Qinghan returned to the Myriad Sword Sect, dusk hovered uncertainly between day and night. Before the grand hall on the main peak, Ling Cang, the Sword Master, stood with his hands behind his back, the sword aura around him restrained yet still emanating a heart-stirring presence.
He turned to gaze at his most outstanding and favored disciple, his eyes gentle. "Han'er, you've returned."
"Master." Su Qinghan bowed, his voice as always crisp and indifferent, betraying no emotion.
Ling Cang's eyes lingered on him for a moment.
Jiang Fuyue glanced at Jiang Chenxing, whose wide eyes blinked, clearly meaning: I'm fine either way, you decide, sister.
Their father had died in front of their mother, a blow so severe that he could do nothing, not even work normally. As for Xia Yihang, though he hadn't seen the video, the imagined scenes were even more horrific.
Feng Ti let out a sigh, confusion filling his eyes. These strange uncles actually knew his mother. Luckily, he hadn't been too rude earlier—or else, if they complained to his mother, he would be punished again.
Qu Lang drove to Cheng Yaoyao's residence. He truly didn't want to go up, preferring to call her down, but worried that speaking outside would not be in her best interest, he had no choice but to head upstairs.
"I'll pour you some water first..." After entering, Cai Yihe touched the teacup on the table. Having just returned from a stroll, the water had long grown cold. Cai Yihe picked up the thermos to refill the cups.
Feng Lingyu nodded, half-understanding. It was because she had never truly possessed a mother and didn't know what her mother should be like, that she wanted to find out the truth. Bai Li Qingchen kept those mad people in the Cold Palace for so many years, not letting them die—perhaps because he cared for them well.
The next day, Ning Xiangdong did not report to the factory, instead sleeping at home until he woke naturally. Upon rising, he found the house empty. His father was surely at work at the school. It surprised him that now even his mother had become elusive, her whereabouts unknown.
These days, Hua Shuangxi had been frazzled by family troubles, his toothache unbearable. Seeing the agreement Li Yudi handed over, his tooth throbbed even more—and now, his head ached as well.
This fellow finally let his fox tail show; perhaps he could no longer keep up the act and simply decided to return to his old ways.
Kurama, over there, had a consciousness far beyond that of humans. So apart from the seal, there was no other control over him. After the Fourth Great Ninja War, Kurama remained by sheer will. If he wished, he could leave at any time, just like Isobu now.
"Don't worry, the people I ask you to kill are all deserving of death." The old man, seeing through his concerns, continued, "I cannot leave this place—because of her." He pointed to another crystal coffin beside Mu Yun'er.
Ling Xuzi and Jun Moxiao exchanged a glance, both puzzled. Judging from their conversation, it seemed General Han had come to Shaolin seeking cooperation?
This man, trying to avoid having his weapon taken, had swung his staff without finding a target. Then, seeing the other reach for Ling Xuzi's nape with his left hand, he struck at the left hand with his staff.
Far from the heart of the battlefield, Ye Fan sped away at full tilt. Unless absolutely necessary, he did not wish to confront Yan Ancestor directly. Shaking off his pursuer was the wisest course.
After Gu Changqing left, Shasheng turned to look at Ma Santong, his gaze icy, a twisted smile playing at his lips.
"Ye Shiyu" sat on the boat, watching Madame Bailing busily prepare noodles. For the sake of their marriage, at this final moment of parting, she cared for her "husband" with meticulous attention. Yet anyone with eyes could see her heart had drifted elsewhere.
Louis pondered for a moment. With a meditation speed four times that of ordinary mages, who could say how much Louis was profiting from this?
It had been over twenty days since they left Carefree Valley. He Ergou and Xian Yunzi traveled south, taking in the magnificent sights of the Central Plains along the way.
