Fu Siqiao heard the commotion coming from the living room, and her heart suddenly tightened, causing her body to tremble slightly. She lay on the bed, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, her mind racing with guesses about what was happening outside. Despite the flood of confusion and worry, an invisible hand of fear gripped her tightly, restraining her from stepping out of the room. In the midst of overwhelming unease and exhaustion, she unknowingly drifted into sleep.

The next morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains, gently caressing Fu Siqiao’s face as she slowly woke. Rubbing her sleepy eyes, she realized it was well past the usual time Lin Siqing would be home. The room was silent, with no sign of him. Hastily, she got up to freshen herself, tidying her blue-and-white school uniform carefully—smoothing the collar and ironing out every wrinkle. She tied her long hair into a high ponytail, a few playful strands framing her cheeks, adding to her youthful vitality. Then, she hurried downstairs and asked the driver to take her to school.

The car slowed to a stop at the school gate. Fu Siqiao gazed out the window, her eyes unintentionally settling beneath the large tree just outside the school. There, Lin Siqing leaned against the trunk, his tall, somewhat forlorn figure standing out in the morning light. He wore the same blue-and-white uniform, draping the jacket casually over his broad shoulders, the hem fluttering gently with the breeze. His hair was slightly disheveled, a few bangs hanging over his deep, melancholy eyes. His arms were crossed, his head bowed slightly, as if weighed down by heavy thoughts, oblivious to everything around him.

As Fu Siqiao was about to approach Lin Siqing, Xu Zhixing appeared like a gust of wind beside her, her blue-and-white skirt swaying softly. She linked her arm through Fu Siqiao’s and smiled, “Come on, today’s classes will be tough.” Fu Siqiao nodded faintly but couldn’t help glancing back at Lin Siqing one last time before walking into the campus with Xu Zhixing.

The moment Xu Zhixing and Fu Siqiao entered the classroom hand in hand, it was as if a stone had been thrown into a calm lake, instantly causing a stir. The students’ gazes fixated on them—some surprised, some curious, others envious. In a corner of the classroom sat Lin Yan. She was a slender girl, so fragile she seemed like she could be toppled by a breeze. Her sharp, oval face held a pair of narrow eyes now flashing with disdain.

Her pale complexion and tightly pressed thin lips gave her a harsh air. It was she who, in front of Xu Zhixing, had mercilessly spoken ill of Fu Siqiao, her sharp tone still echoing in Fu Siqiao’s ears. Today, seeing them so close and going to school together only fueled the flames of jealousy burning fiercely within her.

Just then, Teacher Zhang Kaiguo gently tapped the podium, the crisp sound drawing the students’ attention as he began the day’s first lesson. The classroom gradually quieted, with only the teacher’s voice resonating through the air.

However, Hao Weida, seated in the back row, was inattentive. A mischievous troublemaker, he boredly folded a paper airplane. His thick fingers fumbled clumsily with the paper until a simple plane took shape. Grinning, he stood and threw it forcefully. The paper airplane arced through the air, landing precisely at Fu Siqiao’s feet.

“Fu Siqiao, pick it up for me!” Hao Weida shouted loudly.

Fu Siqiao frowned, pretending not to hear, her eyes fixed firmly on the blackboard, her body motionless. Her hands clenched tightly on the desk, knuckles whitening with tension.

Finally, the bell rang. Hao Weida stormed over and blocked her path. His broad face flushed red like a ripe tomato, veins bulging on his forehead.

“It clearly fell right by your feet! Why won’t you help me?” he demanded loudly, spitting nearly hitting Fu Siqiao’s face.

Fu Siqiao touched her cheek, wiping away the nonexistent saliva, then composed herself and said, “I didn’t see it.”

Seeing her expression, Hao Weida’s anger flared. He raised his thick arm as if to strike. At that critical moment, Teacher Zhang Kaiguo appeared like timely rain, striding forward and glaring sternly at Hao Weida, sharply rebuking, “Hao Weida, no bullying your classmates!”

Hao Weida was cowed by the teacher’s presence and slowly lowered his arm but still shot Fu Siqiao a venomous glare before turning away. Fu Siqiao frowned—this guy was really troublesome.

In the senior experimental class, Lin Siqing lay face down on his desk, eyes tightly shut, brows slightly furrowed, as if troubled even in his dreams. The shadow cast by his prominent nose slanted across his profile, his thin lips pressed together. A few strands of hair fell over his forehead, adding to his unruly charm.

Classmates passed by but dared not disturb this “aura of menace.” Even those walking near his seat treaded lightly, careful not to startle him.

In another corner of the room, Zhang Chenxi was like a ray of warm sunshine. His pale face always bore a gentle smile, his eyes sparkling as if holding the stars and seas—brilliant and captivating. Surrounded by a group of blushing girls, they shyly handed him love letters. Zhang Chenxi patiently accepted each one, his smile never fading.

He carefully opened the letters, reading their contents attentively, then politely closed them, responding to each girl in a soft, magnetic voice. Though his replies were all refusals, surprisingly, the girls were not disheartened. Instead, each seemed exhilarated, as if just having such close exchanges with him was enough to satisfy their hearts.

Amid this seemingly ordinary break, a timid girl squeezed through the crowd, clutching a pink love letter tightly, her eyes filled with nervous anticipation. She slowly approached Zhang Chenxi, lowering her head slightly and whispering, “Zhang Chenxi, I know you’re kind. Could you please help me deliver this letter to Lin Siqing?”

Her voice was faint, like a whisper, yet clear in the quiet atmosphere.

Zhang Chenxi was momentarily stunned; his smile briefly froze. He instinctively glanced toward Lin Siqing, who lay on his desk not far away. He really didn’t want to help.

He scratched his head awkwardly—why should he be the messenger for this 'aura of menace’s' love letter?
