Chapter 19: Have You Forgotten What Master Said?
This is embarrassing.
I was just there lecturing everyone, complaining about this and that, only to have someone teach me a lesson instead!
Sister Yan, suppressing a laugh, went to put away her things. When she returned, she said to everyone, "Alright, let's head to the meeting room. We need to have a quick talk."
As everyone turned to head toward the conference room, I poked Chen Yinan in the arm with my elbow and said, "Sorry about that earlier, I misunderstood you. You, you look like trouble, but the more I get to know you, the more I realize you’re actually alright..."
Chen Yinan frowned and asked the little monkey next to him, "Kid, is he complimenting me or insulting me?"
"Kid your grandpa!" The little monkey rolled his eyes and snorted, "Just take it as a compliment!"
Since we were all on the same side, there was no need to hide anything. Sister Yan explained the situation with Third Master to Chen Yinan, then said to the group, "Now, we need to figure out who this Fatty Luo is. Third Master told us not to provoke him, but we at least need to know who he is and why he’s so terrifying."
We all nodded.
Chen Yinan, however, stared at Sister Yan with wide eyes. "Big Boss, is this Fatty Luo you're talking about named Luo Weijing?"
We all asked in unison, "You know him?"
Chen Yinan laughed out loud, "What a coincidence! What a coincidence!"
Just as we all looked at him with expectation, he threw his hands up and said, "Just like you guys, I don't know him either!"
Everyone stood up, ready to beat him to a pulp!
I realized then that this guy wasn't just a jerk; he was insufferably cheeky!
Chen Yinan hurriedly raised his hands and said, "I don't know him personally, but I know who he is!"
I glared at him. "What does that mean?"
Chen Yinan shrugged. "If we’re talking about the same person, then you must have heard of Viking Cultural Media, right? The boss is Luo Weijing, known as Fatty Luo. I have a few friends who are photographers at that company. In less than three years, their live-streaming platform has become one of the top ones in the country!"
The little monkey remembered something and looked at me, saying, "That day after you, Brother Liang, and that Boss Zhao left, Master asked about that teacher named Hai Qing. He’s from the Viking live-streaming platform!"
I nodded and said to Sister Yan, "Sister, remember back when we were still at the scrap yard? That morning when a Mercedes drove in and Third Master smashed its windshield?"
Reminded, Sister Yan nodded immediately.
The little monkey recalled it too and exclaimed, "That guy in the suit was a big fatty! Could he be Luo Weijing?"
Unfortunately, none of us knew what he had discussed with Third Master inside the house. We only knew that in the end, Third Master flew into a rage and smashed his car. The fatty didn't dare say a word, just got back into his car with a dark expression and drove off. That was likely when the grudge started.
I took a deep breath and said to the others, "Here is my theory: the person behind Zhao Xiangbo is this Fatty Luo. He instigated Zhao Xiangbo to join forces with Cai Lei, kidnap Deng Zhiyong, and force Brother Hei and the little monkey away. The goal was to betray Third Master so he could make his move."
Sister Yan nodded. "Zhao Shangde is likely another one of Fatty Luo’s pawns, though the layout was orchestrated through Teacher Hai Qing. I suspect that Zhao Shangde, like Brother Liang, is being kept in the dark and has no idea he’s become cannon fodder for Fatty Luo!"
Chen Yinan nodded. "Then the biggest problem arises! Even if we know all this, what can we do about it?"
The room went quiet.
Indeed, even if we all knew this was Fatty Luo's conspiracy, what could we do? Even Third Master had been outmaneuvered by him; just before we left, he had specifically warned us not to provoke this man! We simply weren't strong enough to fight him.
The little monkey stood up and started walking toward the door. I grabbed him and frowned. "Where are you going?"
The little monkey shook his arm. "Let go of me! I need to go back to the hospital to stay with Master. It’s full of Zhao Xiangbo’s people there; Master is in too much danger! Zhao Xiangbo is a traitor to the sect, and I’m going to make Master kick him out!"
Sister Yan hurriedly said, "Little Monkey, don't be impulsive. Third Master told us all to come back together, so he definitely has a plan. We just need to follow his orders."
I nodded as well. "Don't bother Third Master tonight. I'll go with you to the hospital to visit him first thing tomorrow morning!"
The little monkey tried to struggle, but Brother Hei suddenly stood up, walked over, and placed his large hand on the little monkey's shoulder. He said in a deep voice, "Did you forget what Master said before we left?"
The two of them standing together looked quite comical, like a father holding his toddler who had just learned to walk. The little monkey, who had been struggling, immediately calmed down and sat back on the sofa, pouting.
Chen Yinan raised his right hand and looked at us. "I don't know if I should say this..."
I glared at him irritably. "Spit it out!"
Chen Yinan looked at us and said, "I think the most important thing you need to do right now is clear your own names! As the saying goes, 'if a nun washes her hair often, there must be a reason.' Since those people insist that you used poisonous mushrooms to harm Third Master, they are definitely going to stick to that story!"
Sister Yan’s expression changed. She stood up, her hands pressing against the sofa. "Right!"
She turned to the little monkey and said, "Little Monkey, everyone is at the hospital now, so the scrap yard is empty. I want you to go over there and check the kitchen. See if those mushrooms have all been eaten. Take some samples and bring them back; I’m going to get them tested!"
This had become a burden on Sister Yan's heart; if she didn't get to the bottom of it, she would likely feel guilty for the rest of her life.
The little monkey nodded. "Okay, I'll go right now!"
I quickly told Brother Hei, "Brother Hei, go with the little monkey and look after him. Let me know the moment anything happens!"
"Got it!" Brother Hei didn't hesitate; he stood up and walked out with the little monkey.
Sister Yan turned to Chen Yinan. "A'Nan, do you know where Viking Media is? I want to go take a look."
Chen Yinan grinned. "You bet..."
I stood up and said to Sister Yan, "Sister, I'll go. You stay here and watch the shop!"
Chen Yinan’s face fell, but he couldn't very well refuse. He gave two dry coughs and said, "Second Boss, as the saying goes, men and women working together makes the work easier..."
I squinted at him, saying nothing.
He rubbed his hands sheepishly, stood up, and said to me, "After you, Second Boss!"
Sister Yan and I share a domestic car that is at least second-hand, but it's good quality and hasn't had any major issues in the two years we've had it. Chen Yinan, however, looked at it with total disdain, sitting in the car with a curled lip, looking here and there. Just as he was about to say something, I cut him off: "Which way? Hurry up!"
Chen Yinan took out his phone, and a woman's voice immediately started: "Preparing to depart, the total journey is 11.7 kilometers..."
I snapped, "Didn't you say you knew the place?"
Chen Yinan looked innocent. "When did I say I knew the place? I said we definitely needed navigation!"
"Dammit, if I'm relying on navigation, what do I need you for?" I was furious. Seeing him about to get out of the car, I grabbed his phone and stuck it into the phone mount on the dashboard.
Trying to find a chance to be alone with Sister Yan? Forget it, you jerk!
